I am glad, too, that I am so far able to recover. I've met a few people who at least have some days when thier alters come out and take over unwittingly. One in particular, didn't seem to mind it so much, but I would be mortified. Keeps us safe, but also confined. I don't think even I would be able to cope with what's on the other side of my formidable wall. aAnd perhaps, it's not meant to be breached. I am learning to trust that someone inside, feels like they know that and have so far only allowed me to have enough experiences to see that there is a good reason why my inside world functions that way. So far I have not met or worked with a therapist I feel safe and is competent enough to handle it either, without me falling all apart and losing what functionality and life I have right now.
Remember to take thins slowly and not to open up too soon, and build up your foundation of trust before you go in too deep. That way, can help you avoid a lot of trouble for you, if you get mid-stream and find out your therapist has met their own end of their ability to guide you through because of their own issues, or lack of experience. That is when I have started to become my therapist's therapist, and continuing after that only leads to trouble for me. If you take things slowly, you'll be able to recognize if that's happening befoer any significant problem arises. You'll be the one who suffers the consequences if that does happen. And we've all had enough of suffering consequences of other people's ignorance.
