my granddaughter is also 5, it's like having a 2nd granddaughter. I feel sort of privileged in a way.
And something that surprises - she seems such a happy little one. I've not known her to have any of the sadnesses that sometimes overwhelm my friend or her 8 year old other alter. And though i've chatted with her once before on skype, and we now have storytimes as skype phone calls rather than chats - night 16 of this storytime was actually pretty much spent wholly with her without reference to it being her. But last night was the first time she actually made mention of my friend (as somebody seperate).
there have been some huge (and i suspect significant) changes for my friend this past 5 or so weeks - such good changes
Bobbi
i find accepting this little one very easy, what i find hard is the secrecy required. I've never been one for furtive friendships but this friendship is not one i can share with others, not the least because it is not my little one. And yep, i've discovered trust is a biggie (if not the biggie along with forgiveness?). My friend has trusted me with 2 of her little ones but she still has a part of her that will never fully trust me
hi Bobbi
do you find this is an issue for you, to not be acknowledged as yourself, to not be known by your name? Would you like to be able to come out and have family say ... oh, hi Bobbi? I could imagine this may hurt at times, or is it all ok?
