I have heard that when alters feel they have been heard, valued, and supported, they may begin to grow on their own... at their own pace.
My Tia seems to have grown some... She's still a teenager, but seems more mature now than when I first started talking with her, and she's become a protector for the younger ones. I'm not asking her to age (and neither is my therapist). It seems to be happening on its own, and has been something of a surprise to me.
You gotta trust your instincts, my friend. No one knows how to heal you better than you yourself, so if it feels right, do it - If it doesn't, tell your therapist so, so that together you can adjust her strategy to something more helpful to you.
