As far as being a burden... what would you rather do, be with the abuser or be with safe people who you can trust but make you feel like you're imposing? I would pick feeling like a burden to feeling like I could be a victim again. What I'm looking into is an organization that can help. Still looking.
I would just goto meetings all day and listen, sometimes I would get shit off my chest and it felt good.
Safe place, food, and friendly atmosphere....no charge.
ps. i also got a lot from the 12 steps which could help you as well
