Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
I hope u learn many things more from DID, Integration or incorporation as u mentioned is not the ultimate thing, wanting and having to survive and co-exist is.
thank you for your post. I was married too and my ex didn't care much about this and thought my DID was a hoax to get attention and it's funny that he felt the closet with one of my alters who wanted to always bow down to him. kinda sad. but oh! well
i can give you only our point of view. as it is that we are each very real individuals, it is also real that we have our own individual life cycles. it can be hard for those with singular souls to wrap their head around being that the outside world can only really see the body and how it seems to be all the same body hence all the same persons even though you sorta get that its not.
i don't know if you are big on faith stuff and i am in no way attempting to push any on you, but it helped us to realize for ourself that we are each a unique soul, we just have to share a house like one big family. so when she left it was like granma passed over.
i hope this kinda helps. have you talked to your hubby+ about it? how they feel?
However I also know that within the scope of the mind, what looks, feels, sounds, and in all other ways, seems to be "the real thing" might not be, and actually really isn't, exactly. Because of two things I know of; and that is,
1), because none of us can know all there is to know about any one incident or occurrence because all we have to go by is what our senses have perceived. And all of those senses as well as our brains, are fallible just by the fact that we are human.
2) and also because, even if all of our senses and our brains were working in perfect order, there is also the factor of everything we know and perceive, is only the knowledge and perception that we ourselves have. Like a disko-ball, there are many facets and many endless ways of perceiving one single thing.
I must be manic again, sorry for all the wordage....
Hope to see you all again soon!!!
To be in a relationship with anyone is a privilege... To be in a relationship with someone with DID is an honor... How do we trust anyone? Some settle for the solitary, single life...it is safer.
Some parts will seem to disappear as they are working through painful memories. The body does not forget.
Other parts in your husband's "system" may actually be able to answer your questions as some monitor on a macro level and can tell you what happened to Tommy. But I know not these parts or if they trust you enough to share.
I've had DID friend stonewall me before and so I lost many friends. Not just one... It hurts a lot...but I'm grateful for the time we had together. I'm sad we could not continue connecting as friends... Her name was Anna.
I think I am integrating. I don't know if any of the parts are gone or not though. I/we had a temper tantrum about 4 months ago and stopped using our individual names. We decided the problems we have are not from DID. DID is the result of the abuse. Dealing with the trauma of the abuse is more important than focusing on the DID, so we stopped using plurals most of the time, and got really careful with notes and the calendar (like I used to do before I knew about DID). Since then, I hear voices, but I don't know who is who any more. I don't think I am less of who I was when everyone was so separated. Probably the same is true for your spouse. If you watch, you will probably see elements of Tommy, though not as pronounced as before. He's your husband, and your husband is him. He's not really gone, I think.
