Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
We totally disagree with making anything inanimate (such as a chair) into alters as this statement suggests. If that were true, DID would be an interesting disorder indeed!
Did we forget the human component completely? An alter is a personality state, separate from yourself BlackRose. They have their own thoughts feelings and emotions. Not to mention, they take the abuse for you in that moment they are "born". I doubt if your stuffies can do that for you honey.
Now you can assign a person to speak through them like you would puppets and perhaps that is what is going on. That is, your alters are speaking through using stuffed animals as a representation. MY family did that when my angry protector Christine hated my sexual side Makayla. That is the ONLY time those two spoke.
Please talk to a professional about this because perhaps your alters are wanting to communicate through utilization of these dolls as a tool.. not the stuffed animals being the alters as others have suggested. That's preposterous!
Good luck!
Cheers,

Multiple Personality Disorder, renamed dissociative identity disorder, is the suggestion that one body may serve as a home to multiple individuals, each with their own distinct personality. (Grolier encyclopedia) This suggestion is accepted by psychiatrists world wide and is recognized as a serious mental illness. However, all of the personalities that are present in an individual are normal. They act as any other normal personality, because the multiple personalities have their own memories which dictate the personality of the individual or alter personality.(Dr. McQueen) There can be over one hundred personalities in a body, some not even human. (There have been many documented cases of people having animal or even inanimate object personalities).
Some multiples have animal alters (often dragons or lions) or inanimate objects (like trees). Animal alters are often powerful forces, designed for protection or anger. Inanimate alters may appear mute, unseeing, and unfeeling. For a small child enduring severe abuse, it helps to have an alter who feels nothing.
Opening up a debate....
I think you may be confused. We have animal alters as well several in fact, a phoenix and a dog, but that is not an inanimate object such as a chair, or a cup, or a toothbrush such as your ??? research is suggesting. Who is Dr.McQueen anyway? I looked it up and found nothing.
We do not fully believe nor subscribe to what the almighty web says word for word, rather go by what we know to be true and my chairs do not talk to me, nor do I doubt they ever will and the comment was addressed to Blackrose..the person who posted.
The difference here is the term alter.. when we think on that, we think of others who take control of the body. In all time spent with friends who have DID on this journey, I have never experienced or heard of such a thing. So I am sharing my experience as a multiple here myself for whatever that is worth.

Recently, an alter told me of a brother alter who believed he was a bear. As is common for recently surfaced alters, Bear, as he called himself, was too shy to speak, but was listening. So I began gently speaking to him. I had assumed he had chosen to believe he was a bear to help himself feel safe, since few people would dare mess with a grizzly bear. After I spoke to him along those lines for a few moments he interrupted, saying that he was not an animal but was a tattered teddy bear, because, he said, stuffed toys cant feel. (It is common for hurting alters to feel disconnected from their feelings and, of course, anyone who is hurting would prefer to feel unable to feel pain.)
Our personal opinion is that DID is not just a "normal" disorder (if you can call any disorder normal). The fact is, DID is almost always caused by severe trauma at a young age. We believe that almost anything is possible with DID, being that a childs mind is limitless in it's creation and thoughts. Adult minds are not like children's. To an adult, a talking stuffie seems unreal, to a child, it can be very real. So with that in mind, we believe it's possible for a child to create inanimate object alters. The term "alter" however, may not be the right one, since as Ausie says, most people know an alter to be a personality state.
Simply put, it IS possible for inanimate objects to be "alters" (we'll use that term for lack of a better one). We know this, because we have one. One of our alters is a puppet. There were times when we were used/manipulated like a puppet, and because of that, we created an alter who is a puppet.
So we definitely don't agree with the comment that it is preposterous.
With all that said, we want to come back to BlackRose and her original post.
Maybe a few questions might help to determine whether they are alters, or if something else is going on.
1. When Chui talks to you, George talks to Brookie, etc. is it just their voice you hear, or do you see their lips move, etc?
2. Is the talking happening inside your head, like another alter, or is it coming from completely away from the body?
3. Are the voices from the stuffies experienced in the same way as your other alters, or do they seem/sound different?
Like Wheezie said, we'd suggest asking Chui if he is an alter.
There really are so many possibilities as to what it may be. Maybe they are alters. Maybe Ausie is right, in that it could be other alters using them as representations. They may feel that presenting as Chui is the best way to get through to you/help you, etc. We know that our puppet alter cannot speak, hear, move, think, or any other type of living thing. Maybe it is something altogether different.
The truth is, no one here can tell you what it is or what it isn't. Only you and your group can figure that out.
Hope this has at least cleared some things up for you.
The Dollhouse
They have there own voices, there lips don't move. But there eyes and ears move.
2. Is the talking happening inside your head, like another alter, or is it coming from completely away from the body?
Away from the body
3. Are the voices from the stuffies experienced in the same way as your other alters, or do they seem/sound different?
There just like friends or pets that can talk, I guess
Inanimate objects are a great tool for communication within your household, They don't have brain formation and in our opinion you can't circumvent yourself from the inanimate object. It's all about semantics and the same thing with my comment about debating this. Why can't we discuss this without wrong or right?
In response to Porcelain~ A child has the ability for more than anything we can fathom or imagine. Honestly, I don't negate that and I'm sorry for the "preposterous" statement. However, to turn around and hear that household objects are an alt fragment of me... I couldn't stomach it nor could my alters, so it boils down to what works best for you.
BlackRose~ It sounds like your alts are utilizing these stuffies to communicate with you and through others. Moreover, when things are away from the body and not like alts, this has a different classification altogether. Again as StephanieTram suggests, ask a professional to be sure.
As for the documentation... imaginary friends and animals yes, other objects not so sure. Care to share the link with us?
