For Velcade and Decadron you should be able to drive to and from your appointments. I have no experience with Revlimid.
Decadron can play hell with your sleep and your mood, choose how you WANT to feel when the Decadron kicks in.
It takes a lot less energy to dance around and be silly on steroids than it does to be pissed off and mean.

I am new to this site. My mother has been fighting Multiple Myeloma for a year +. She went through radiation, surgery,chemo and recently had a stem cell transplant. I know she is very scared and frustrated. She is still weak and has ups and downs. Nov. 24th she was told by her doctor she is in full remission! God be with you during your treatment. Also, I have found the people sitting with you in the waiting room are a good resouce of support.

I'm still working full time and they are telling me that I should be able to work up until the tranplant in 4 months and then will only need 2 months off work. Is this realistic?

2 months off is pretty realistic , and because you are younger than most of us should work well for you.

At 55 I took 2 months off and it spanned from cytoxan,neupogen, apheresis,melphalan and stem cell rescue.

Something physically demanding like rafter framing or roofing might take a few more weeks before a full day's work didn't kick your butt.

In Auguust 2009 I started Rev/Dx and it made me pretty tired for the first few months. fast forward to August 2010 when I started Rev/Dx again and I have very little if any side effects from the Rev. And I enjoy my "Dex Mondays". I feel sort of high for 2 days and get a lot of stuff done. I then feel pretty normal afterwards. Sometimes I'll be more tired than normal on Thurs/Fri, but not too often.
You will also imagine a lot of side effects too (I did). Staying as busy as you can would be my advice.
And on the night of your Dx, make sure to take something to help you sleep.

Thanks everyone for your response to my posting. Looks like Tuesday is the Big Day. I hate needles. I figured if my little preemie nephew can battle 6 months of needle sticking, four head surgeries and waiting smiling, surely I can get throught this.

This is a sneaky cancer that usually hides from test and lack of symptoms until it finally attacks the kidneys and is discovered. It is usually discovered in stage3 with renal involvement. This is the highest stage and has the highest mortality. It can be treated, but not cured.
Check out the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute wed sites.
There is a wealth of information at these sites. I like the National Cancer Institute the best. You have to be your own advocate. Ask the doctor questions. Don't accept anything you can not understand. Ask for a meeting with a oncology nurse specialist.
Ask for handouts on this illness. If I had accepted blindly my diagnosis I would most likely be on dialysis by now. So far I have protected my kidneys by drinking a lot of water and diluting the high calcium in my blood. No one told me to do this. I read it
in the MM section of the National Cancer Institute. Ask for copies of your blood test and other test.
I had my first velcade treatment on 1/3/2011. I am 71 years old and have coronary artery disease that gets in the way of my treatment. I am going to fight this disease with all my strength. Be sure to try laugh therapy. It has been proven to help with serious disease. I watch the old Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies they get me to laughing so hard my belly aches. Don't forget to pray. If medicine can not cure this disaster, God can.

Thank you for the comments. I do know about the water and not about ways to remove the access calcium. Are you using for this as well? You are right, Laughter and prayer does help. Although, I must admit that sometimes I get upset of the situation. I didn't make it on the clinical trail, but have filled most prescriptions and will start this coming Tuesday. Because my job requires a lot of driving, I had to give myself a shot in the stomach daily to prevent blood cuts...Did I mention I HATE NEEDLES....Guess I'll get over it.

I hate needles also. I have a Port-A-Cath. This is a great devise. The needle stick in the port it only gives a slight stinging sensation. It does not hurt like a vein stick. Drinking a lot of water will dilute the high calcium. The problem is Myeloma attacks the kidneys and only treatment with drugs may stop the damage to the kidneys. I try to keep positive. This cancer takes it's toll on you. Sometimes I feel like giving up. Other times I feel like I can beat this. I am very concerned about the cost of treatment. I am only low middle class. Too much income to get help. Too little income to afford high cost.

Likes like treatment may be pushed back another week due to the ice on the roads. There are programs specially designed for Myeloma Patients that offer funding to assist with copays and other bills. One of them is called the co-pay relief patient center. I don't have the website handy, but call and get a packet from the ACS and they have a wealth of info regarding funding. They offer up to 10K a year and their year begins again in July. In any case, you will still get treatment regardless and they will work with you. Don't worry about it, you have enough on your mind. I was stressed out it as well and then I put things into perspective. Good Luck and keep me posted. I'm rooting for you as well.

Thank you so much for the reference on help. I am so stressed out. I estimated it will be around $2,000 a month co-pay for the velcade IV. I have not received a bill yet so I am hoping it will not be that high. I have other co-pays for doctors and prescription drugs. Adding $2,000 to these is more than half my income.

There are several out there. I would just start googling if I were you. another one is called NORD. Google this one and apply as well. Some are not based on income, others are, but you can make as much as $125K a year as combined family income.

Finally started treatment on Friday. Velcade/Decadron/Potassium Pills/Pain/anti-nausea pills/Bactrim..You think that's enough? Nope, Revlimid is late due to the weather, so won't start that until next cycle with the anti-blood clot injections. Oh I also forgot about the Zometra injection that I also got on Friday. I'm looking forward to the week off of these meds. Felt good Friday, but Saturday was bummer....

Flu like symptoms the first time you do an IV of bisphosphonates but usually only the first time.
Velcade beats you up the second week more than the first.
And Decadron is the shut up and smile drug.
