My mom died today from multiple myeloma. She was diagnosed with end stage MM this past January and spent 2 1/2 months in the hospital. We were able to bring her home under hospice care. Bless my dad for being her caretaker for the past 3 weeks.

Mom suffered many infections while she was in the hospital. She was doing well until the infections weakened her.

She was my best friend, my matron of honor, and my confident. I am her only child.

I feel that this post is rather selfish but hope to find comfort in those who have shared similar experiences.

Bless all of the MM fighters, caregivers and supporters. We are a special group. I promised my mom I would make a difference for her, and I will work hard to make a difference for all of those impacted by MM.

So sorry to hear about your Mom. She would be so proud of you wanting to make a differeence in the world. I have mm and am in remission.Think off all the memories you have of your Mom..she sounds very special

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I know until my husband was diagnosed I did not know of this cancer. As you know, it's rare and I hope a cure comes soon, all we can do is raise awareness and support wherever possible and each other...none of us want to be a member of this club! Wishing you and your family peace and, extend my condolences for the loss of your Mother.

Iread your entry with a lump in my throat as it reminds me of what i dredd, leaving those i love. i am so sorry that you have lost someone so dear to you, I am sure that i seak for all of us in saying that we are here if you need to talk. I am lucky at present as i am in remission and hope to stay this way for a long time.

I am so sorry about your mom. I joined this comm. because my brother-in-law was diagnosed last November. Praise God, he is in remission now after 2 rounds of chemo.I am not real familiar with MM but my family is learning as we go. Take care and God Bless You as you go through this difficult time, I lost my daddy last June,not from MM but I know the hurt you are feeling right now, Just hang on to all your memories your mom left you with. Heartfelt sympathy/empathy to you at the loss of your best friend - your Mother. May she and you find peace in the time you shared.

My best friend - my Mom has had MM, stage 4, since Dec 2005. As of March 21,2008, she signed up for hospice care. I'm not sure when she'll take her last breath, but I am sad at the reality of her passing.

I lost my darling husband on the 16th of May 2008. He had last stage MM but passed after a fall and damaging his lungs. He contracted a massive lung infection and died 8 days after the fall. I am extremely grateful for the 30 year wondrous adventure that was our life together. I will miss him more than I can tell you. I don't know what we can do to make a difference but we must try. This damn disease is still very rare and nearly all diagnoses are accidental. Maybe they should screen for this cancer routinely. It used to be that only people over the age of 60 used to get it but there are more and more younger people suffering with it now and because it is not actually curable if it is dx in early stages it can go into remission with chemo and stemcell transplants and people can live virtually symptom free for many many years.
Yes we are all a special group because we fight like crazy to kepp our loved ones with us but if it is nort DX early enough we don't have a chance.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm terrified of saying those words but unfortunately it's becoming more likely each day. My mum was diagnosed 8 years ago and has spent most of that time fighting MM. She underwent a bone marrow transplant in August 2007 and has spent most of the passed 9 months in hospital with complications. She is becoming more and more ill with the doctors running out of answers. Reality tells me that things aren't going to get better but my heart is holding on the miracle. The doctors don't have much experience as no one survives this long with the complications mum has had, well if that's the case maybe she'll continue to prove them wrong. Good luck with everything. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. It is so hard when we lose someone we love who has been a part of our lives for so long. My husband died May 10 of MM and I know it will be a long time before it doesn't hurt all the time. He wasn't diagnosed until his kidneys had already shut down. He tried everything the doctors had but nothing worked. He was in so much pain and so sick that he finally quit dialysis and went into home hospice and died three days later. We have to work to get more awareness of this disease so others will have a better chance at survival.
