Because of serious MCS (have been a week in ICU, in coma part of time)
Drs. have insisted I live at home in isolation. Is there anyone else in this group who has to go to this extreme? If so, what do you do to avoid feeling left out of life? It has been 5 yr. and I am getting weary of watching life outside the window.

Bunkie......if you go online and Google Hospitalization Guidelines for Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, you should be sent to a whole barrell of stuff. I have a tone of stuff run off and waiting in case I have to go. If you go armed with this, they are supposed to be liable if they don't follow what you need. No chemicals in your room, no perfumed staff, etc. When I first had to go was when I was first sick and knew nothing, and they did this stuff anyway. Put a big sign on my door forbidding chemicals, used another OK cleaner, but sparingly, allowed my own sheets, took out the soap dispenser in the bathroom, etc. Luckily, I have a good friend that is a nurse anesthesist, and she has given me lots of info on anesthesia and what to tell them to use. Start digging.....if you have to go often, it's worth it.....There is a lot, so you may want to pick and choose and type up your own sheet of stuff. Good luck! I do not have an MCS doctor....none without hours of here, lots of hours.....I do work with a naturopath/MD out of PGH who has been a big help.

Hello I am also house bound in my community. I have been able to manage to get to a place that is wilderness and has no pollution. It is where I can breath. I wear a mask to leave my house. At first I could not go out at all. Most days I was bed ridden. I have made a safe zone in my house. I still have to be really careful.

I have also moved out to a remote area. I have been lucky, and I own 20 acres of forest. I keep a mask in my pocket at all times when I go out. this week I "crashed" after driving for 3 hours, but it's hard to know if it's adrenal or from multiple exposures. I do tend to get sick if I have to drive in traffic, inhaling exhaust. I can't go in Home Depot without a gas mask, and sometimes I get sick anyway. I was able to prove that exposure to chemicals increases the pressure in my brain. this is what I think is causing the neurological symptoms in MCS. if you have a lot of headaches and brain fog, it is worth going to a neurologist to ask about it. they will say you can't have intracranial hypertension without swelling of the optic nerves, but it's not true.
