Staph infections are infections caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus. They include skin infections, pneumonia, blood poisoning, toxic shock syndrome, and food poisoning. Infection can happen through contact, especially if you have open wounds. Most infections are treatable with antibiotics. If you have been infected with staph, join the group for support and advice.

I just joined this group and I am looking for advice and hoping to share and give advice on what I have learned about this vicious bug. I am a cancer survivor and thought I could have reconstruction but instead I was blessed with this relentless infection and I am currently battling a wound with Silvadene cream and changing bandages each day. This is really daunting. Can anybody tell me how long this process of healing and bandage changeing will take? I would like to feel healthy soon but what I have read is not very encouraging. Thanks for listening.

Hi I’m sorry you’re going through this after beating cancer. I’m hoping to get useful info too. Is Silvadene the colloidal silver stuff? I’ve seen that mentioned in my research. I’m also still working on figuring out the bandage changing. I “think” that the hydro gel bandages work well once the area has stopped seeping and is starting to heal. You can leave them on for several days and they are supposed to help with healing on their own.

Thanks, I hope to have this fixed after this Monday! I got a second sepsis last march and the wound insisted on staying even after getting the wound therapist team involved at the hospital. My Dr decided to put a wound vacuum on and after weeks of this not working I am going in for a flap surgery to cover this thing once and for all.
Silvadene is antibacterial white cream that should only be used for a couple of weeks as it can turn your skin grey and cause more problems. Good luck to you, may you heal completely.
