If you have had MRSA is it always in your body?

I'm a diabetic so I get infections easily. I've had 2 amputations due to infections. I keep a close I on any scratches or cuts for infection. In January of 2011 I noticed a scratch on my leg looked like it might be infected my doctor told me to go to the ER. I thought the doctor would give me some antibiotics and send me home, but he said he was putting me in ICU and that he thought it was MRSA. The culture came back positive for MRSA plus the doctor that was treating me in ICU said that there were also 3 other antibiotic resistant infections that showed up. They had me on vancomycin and another IV antibiotic for week. After I was released I was on an oral antibiotic but it reoccured and I was back in the hospital for more of the IV antibiotics. I haven't had a reoccurance since, but would it still be in me?

It's since you are Diabetic, with being immunocompromised. The lastest research says it can only live for a certain amount of time. Most docs like to see you be free of MRSA for 6 months. But, and this is the big BUT, it is in our environment and you could pick it up anywhere again. Once you've acquired it, you're more suspebtible to it.

even though you've not had a recurance dont let that lull you in to in attentiveness reacurence is just a unnoticed bump away. not only should you keep watch of cuts and scratches also watch boils,pimps and dry spots; they can and will cause a new round of atibiotics.
where were your amputations? not trying to be rude but due to infection for the second time in my leg and now having a chance to use a prostitic well useing the gel socket I had 2 absess' that got a little out of hand quick.they lanced them and the culture came back MRSA, of course. ending my third week of antibiotics this week, infecious dease doctor said eveything looked good I just need to keep a closer eye on even the sliteous bump could cause reacureance. like she told me once you have it you always have it.

My right leg is amputated just below the knee and all the toes and the front part of my left foot. I do occasionally get ingrown hairs under my prosthetic leg with a small amount of puss in them. I do check every time I take my leg off. I also put cream on both amputations if I notice any dry spots. I have one reoccurring dry spot where the bone of my stump rubs on the prosthetic.

my amputation is above the knee on the left. I took just over a year for 99% healing.and the whole time I could have been 100% but the house we lived in had several types of mold so when we moved I started healing much faster.
also try taking multi vitamins daily helps build your immune system; and as with everyone keeps saying water* water*water. :) ***HUGS***

I take lots of medications. 17 prescriptions, multi vitamin, B12, C, Iron, low dose aspirin and flax seed oil.
