Valentine's Day - Dancing with my Mama
MamasChild1
Today, was Valentine's Day - a day for sweethearts - the day before my birthday. I'm telling you this for a reason. I realized this year that Mama was my Valentine - all those years. She spent my life making Valentine's Day a special time in anticipation of my birthday - Cupids, candy, cards and hearts around the house. How we both reveled in it - even when childhood parties were past - as adults we made a fuss over each other - just for the fun of it. Mama left me a legacy of continuing that - I buy my own Valentine candy and b'day cake tomorrow...just because I want it - and Mama would, too.
This morning, I heard a song on TV that prompted me to suddenly dance in the room, imagining Mama was dancing with me. So strange - perhaps, wishful thinking. But when I sat down and sipped my coffee, a strong sunlight beat down through the window onto my face. I suddenly recalled Mama's words during her last months - spoken to me in that very spot..."Sit down where the sun is and have your coffee."
The irony was not just the memory but recognizing how much our loved ones leave us. Mama was my life - Dad didn't live with us. At Christmas, I fought to make an hour-long trip to Mama's grave - Weeks after Christmas, I realized I'd forgotten to visit Dad's - just blocks from here. So, I made it a point to visit him today. After all, it was many years ago today that my parents were anticipating my arrival. I apologized to him for not doing more during his life. I wept out loud at my Dad's grave - never so loud in public before. I'm sure listeners misinterpreted the resason - because I was weeping over my Valentine - my Mama.

That was very sweet... and yes my Mom was my valentine and has always been. I have to make a 5 1/2 hour trip to visit Mom's grave. I only do that on holidays when I make the trip home. I will make a trip there in May becasue of Mother's day and her birthday. I will visit all the other graves too Pop, Dad, Nannie, Poppa and my brother Mark.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
