Motherless Daughters Community Group
For any daughter who has lost their mother, whether through Death (if it's been one day ago or 40 years ago) or Abandonment, (i.e.-drug abuse, mental illness, physical or emotional abuse, etc.) and is working through the grief process. This group provides unconditional support and understanding from women who have also lost their Moms and who truly care.

I've been thinking a lot lately about loneliness and isolation, and all the people suffering out there, feeling isolated in their grief. I think we do a terrible job of looking after each other here in the west, we are so sheltered from the reality of death and dying that no one seems to know how to have a conversation about it, or how to look after people who are grieving....
I think in cities these days most people feel a level of loneliness & isolation even when they are 'surrounded' by family and friends - then add social media and the rapid pace of our lives - and we are unknowingly disconnecting ourselves even further from each other. Then you lose your closest person, and everything is magnified, all those relationships pale in comparison to the one you have lost forever, and the loneliness feels unbearable.....
I have always longed for a 'tribe', a 'village' where everyone looked after each other. Now I long for it more than ever. It's been 17 months since I lost Mum, and I feel more lonely now than every before. I spend most of my days in the company of others, sometimes my best friends and closest family, and still feel so lonely without Mum. Sometimes I think I would feel less depressed if I really did isolate myself - as in move my family to a remote community somewhere where we know no-one and have to start from scratch - I think that would feel less depressing, than having people all around me, but feeling so disconnected....
Will it pass with time?
I saw on ABC last night a palliative care nurse talking about the idea of wanting to have 'death wives' - the opposite I guess of 'mid wives'. Carers who are there to have those conversations, help the dying make that journey, and help the family members on the other side, after the funeral and the chaos, when everything is horribly quiet and the hours take a million years to pass...
I think it's a great idea, and would help so many people, in their greatest time of needing care & support. What do you think?

its crazy to know that people actually do feel the same, i can totally relate a lot to the wanting to run away and be alone, isolating myself. having people around but still feeling alone, and no one like my mom. i always get in moods where i feel i could just up and leave everything and everyone behind, go be alone somewhere and i will finally be happy...

I can definitely relate, I can be in a room full of people and there are times when none of it matters, because I still feel so alone without my mom. There are times when it seems like I feel better when I separate myself from everyone and eveything going on. It seems like no one is as effected by my mother's death as me, which makes for a lot of loneliness even when surrounded by my closest friends and family.

This is a fantastic idea and something I've thought about alot. It's funny that I read your post just today, because all weekend I've been stupidly looking at houses for sale and jobs in the remotest part of the UK! So same here, all these.people around me and I feel like the loneliest person on the planet. Thank you for posting, it is such a relief to see an 'explanation' for how I'm feeling and that I'm not alone at all. Lots of love & hugs xxx

It is interesting that so many feel the same. I, too, live in a big bustling city and yet dream of moving to a rural mountain community! I hate feeling like I have to "put on a happy face" even with friends. I do find it useful to come to this board and see that other people are missing their mothers and dealing with insensitive fathers, but I wish I could see you all in person, too!

Sometimes I get the urge to sell everything I own and move to the opposite end of the country, in hopes that something there will make me happy.
