Motherless Children Support Group
This community focuses on children (of any age) who no longer have a mother in their lives, whether as a result of death or extended separation. A mother plays a crucial role in both early childhood development as well as support throughout one's life. How is your life affected by the lack of this integral relationship?
How long before the pain of losing your mother lessened? Did it ever? Will it ever?
For me the answers to these questions are... Never. No. No.
Losing my mother was like death itself. Inside I died, only my body continued.
How could I care about myself, about life, without the one person I counted on to love me, to reassure me that I was lovable, that life was livable?
I couldn't so I died, too. And yet here I am, after all these years still alive and breathing. But something inside of me surely died the day I lost my mother... and I know now, that no matter how well I taught myself to carry-on I will never, ever get over losing my mother.
That primal scream lays waiting forever, deep in my soul... "Mother! Where are you?!?!?"

I believe that no one can tell anyone else how to grieve or how long to grieve... it is such a personal experience. Perhaps like the song by Chris Long all we can do is 'Help Somebody Cry' and maybe help them carry the weight of their burden.
What I needed to hear most from my own mother and wish now that I had told my friend was... you ARE lovable and life IS worth living. Isn't this what every wee little one needs to hear and believe? Isn't this the foundation for living? Without it is there any real hope?
