Moms of Prisoners Community Group
A place of support for mothers with a child incarcerated. A place to share the pain and find comfort with those who are walking on the same hard path. A place where together we can be stronger and help our children cope with their time behind bars.

My oldest son just received a 12 year sentence first time going to prison and I'm struggling on how to support him an trying to be strong an make sure he is ok. It devastated my family and his siblings and his two kids big time I'm trying to stay strong for everybody but it's killing me inside. Need to be able to talk with someone that can help me get through this.

I am so very sorry and I totally understand your pain. My youngest is in for 14 (with no off for good behavior). This happened two years and I can tell you two years ago, I did not think I would make it. I was totally broken. I was a failure, I brutally accepted by failings and those regrets are with me 24/7 but mainly between 2am and 4am. Take it day by day. I know that sounds trite but it is true. Each day will bring new challenges and new faith in your heart. Remember YOU did not make the choice he made. I tell myself that too. I am raising her children. They were 4 and 7 at the time. It's been two years but she just got sent to prison in December. This is my first support group too and am hoping I can find answers, as well.

Thanks you Kathieray. I am taking it day by day, some days are good and some days are bad. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I'm here if you ever need to talk. Do you have facebook? There is a awesome support group on there also that I am involved in.

I do! It's kathieraeray. Yep Rae Ray!!! LOL Has he gone through Intake? Is he in general population?

He is still in intake. He has been there close to a month now. This is the longest I have ever gone without seeing him. He just became a trustee the other day so he is able to be out of his cell a little more.Which helps him. He has been very depressed lately. We try are best to keep his spirits up.

Yeah, Intake for us was 6 weeks. By the time I got to touch her, it had been 4 years. It was incredible, What keeps Chelsea's spirits up is the hope of one day having contact visits with her kids. Tell him that the kids need him and they need him to be together for that. This is hard enough on them. How old are they, btw? How old are the kids? Do you have a large family?
