Misophonia! Community Group
Misophonia is an extreme hatred of certain sounds believed to be caused from abnormally strong connections between the autonomic and limbic systems in the brain. I have personally suffered from misophonia my whole life, so I know how hard it can be. Lets learn to be more at peace with it together please!
My parent's have finally become more understanding of my frustrations now that they have researched Misophonia but any physician and/or therapist I went to did not take me seriously. They just kept trying to put me on anxiety, ADHD, and or relaxer medications. It is something that I don't think anyone will really understand unless they experience it. It is nice to know that there are more people out there that suffer from this. I have grown up thinking I was somewhat crazy.
I usually have the most problems when I am trying to focus on something. For example, I am a Junior at the local university here and I can barely sit through a class. The pencils, the chewing, the WHISPERING is a big one. I also struggle in movie theatre's with the popcorn and the candy bag rustling. It's so overwhelming and I get so angry. Question: Do you find that certain sounds are conditional? Like one person in your life could make one sound that doesn't bother you and someone else can make the same noise and it drives you insane? Or are your's pretty straight across the board?
unfortunately for my son, he has started reacting to his father's and grandmother's noises and appearance while eating too - and sometimes complains about mine. lol (just laughing at the fact that i am now finding myself on the other side of the equation for the first time in my life) :D
when my family eats, i HAVE to have music or the tv on, and sit sort of sideways so that the person that bugs me isn't in my line of site. and i try really, really hard not to roll my eyes or glare at them or even worse, start to growl in frustrated rage. :/
