I just wondered if any of you ever worry that someone close to you will choose a name for their child that you are absolutley in love with. My fiance and I wont be trying again for a baby for quite some time, and sometimes we both worry that family and friends who have children between now and when we do, might pick a name we love. I talked about this fear with one of my best friends and while she was very understanding, she didnt really get it. She said that if that happens we can always choose another name. I know shes right, but I still cant help but feel like I'd be a little heartbroken if one of my names were used by someone else. There are alot of people I know who are pregnant right now and it seems like every few weeks another person tells me they are pregnant or someone they know is pregnant, and its made me think more and more about the fact that I really would be effected by someone choosing one of the names I love. I know I could still use the name even if someone else did, but I dont think it would be the same. I guess the fact that I lost my babies makes me more sensetive to this. I guess I feel like I never got to see the two babies I lost, so at least I should get to use the two names that I love. I just wondered do any of you sometimes feel like this?

I know how you feel. Both my SIL's are pregnant and I'm so afraid that one of them will choose a name I want. Some people may think it's petty but I understand what you're saying completely!!!

One of my co-workers & friends actually named her daughter Kayla...a name I told her I loved & would name our first born if it was a girl...she named her daughter Kayla only two wks after I m/c my 1st baby. I have a pretty unusual name & don't want to name my child with any of the common names...but, I sure don't want it to be too obscure...so now I just don't tell anyone the names we have picked out.

I feel the same way. Although my husband and I have picked quite unique names for our babies, I really don't want to have to deal with it if someone, my SIL who is pregnant (and my other who is trying) happened to use the names we like. I'm hoping their unique (albeit strange enough) that no one chooses them.

I had the same fear and my SIL ended up using it just a few months after I m/c. I remember being beyond frustrated, I cried for days and days. I am now pg again and even though I still love the name and have a few bitter thoughts :) This baby is different then my last. I don't know how to explain it, but this just isn't her (I m/c a girl and am pg with a girl). My last was meant to have that name and this one is a new person. Maybe that sounds weird, but you might find that this name that you love was just meant for this child??? (This doesn't mean I haven't had some thoughts about my sil...)

I totally understand how you feel. That actually happened to me. My brother in law and his wife actually named their baby the name that I was going to name my baby just 2 mos. after I miscarried. I still want to cry everytime I say my nephews name. They didnt know that was the name I had picked out, its just a wierd coincidense.
