I wasn't tested after my d&c (for a missed miscarriage) either. No-one mentioned it and I didn't think to ask.
However, and if I understand the process correctly, it seems that your levels drop fairly quickly after the d&c as your body recognises quickly that you are no longer pregnant. With a natural miscarriage the levels are monitored perhaps as a way of confirming that all of the "tissue" (sorry, hate to use that word as it's not really appropriate but I don't know what other word to use in it's place) has passed and that your body is going back to "normal".
I had a pregnancy test on Monday (just over 7 weeks after d&c) and it was negative hcg levels were 0. I had this test prior to HSG exam on Wednesday to check for blocked tubes (left one is blocked). i'm assuming that my levels dropped back to 0 very quickly after the d&c because overnight, my pregnancy symptoms disappeared. Sorry you are having such awful patient care. Sadly for a lot of us it seems to be the norm. I've only now found a wonderful gynecologist after 5 years. It's reassuring to know that someone is finally listening.

I'm not sure if hcg levels are monitored with a d & c. I had a natural miscarriage so, as locopoco said, it's to make sure that all of the tissue has passed. If the hormone levels stays elevated for a long period of time then I think they would go in there and do a d & c to get rid of any remaining tissue because the body is taking too long to pass it.

I've had two m/c, both needing a D&C. They didn't monitor my hcg either time. I just waited a few weeks, then took a hpt. It was negative so I assumed my levels dropped. I don't think it's that important to be monitored afterwards, unless there's some complication or something....but normally they don't monitor it.

I had a d and c and my hcg was not monitored. Honestly I think this was a HUGE mistake as nearly 6 weeks later it was discovered (due to continued bleeding) that I had retained material and needed another d and c. Having a d and c is unfortunately not a guarantee that the uterus is entirely cleared. If I had to go through it again I would absolutely demand to have my hcg monitored! Of course most people have a negative hcg in about a months time so using an hpt in about a month could tell you if there is an issue or not!

I had a D&C and my levels weren't monitored until they felt there was reason to. I had bleeding for two weeks and then spotting for another 4wks. Because of the constant spotting and cramping they decided to test my HCG and found the levels were not going like they would expect and sent me for an u/s which revieled retained product and resulted in a repeat D&C.

I was told that with a D&C...your levels aren't regularly checked unless problems arise.

My first and second miscarriages were natural and my HCG levels were monitored. I had a D&C for my third miscarriage and my doctor didn't monitor HCG levels at all. I continued to take pregnancy tests once a week after my D&C however to monitor my HCG level myself (depending on the pregnancy test, HCG will continue to be detected until it's below 25). Once I got a negative pregnancy test, I knew it would be just a matter of days before it went back down to zero.

I personally think that you should be getting your hcg monitored. I know a few people online who had to have repeat D&C's because of continued bleeding. I had a natural miscarriage at almost 12 weeks & had my hcg tested weekly starting 3 days after the mc. By the 2nd test they stopped doing it because I'd dropped to 10. By the next week I know I was at zero because i tried an hpt & it was neg. Apparently hcg leaves the blood before it leaves the urine, & you might continue to get + hpt's for about a week after you hit 0 on a blood test.

The BIGGEST concern with not being monitored is that you obviously will ov before you get a period, so it's very possible that you could get pg & not even know it because you might still be getting + hpt's from the D&C (not sure if that's the case with you. Do you get + hpt's?). One of my friends continued to get + hpt's after her D&C for a week & a half afterwards, but they gradually faded into negs. Another friend from this board just went through this after her D&C as well. Her doc wasn't monitoring her levels after the procedure in March, so she was doing hpt's & getting +. She went to the ER a couple of times for pain, so they did bloodwork & her levels weren't really dropping that fast, which made them suspect she was newly pg & possibly losing the new baby since her levels dropped a bit between her 2 ER visits. It made her life more stressful than it needed to be. If she'd been monitored from the start she would've known her levels were from the old pg. She just found out this week that her pain was due to an ovarian cyst.

I would ask the specialist to please test you & tell him it will give you peace of mind. If they won't do it maybe you could visit a testing facility? Do you have a Quest Diagnostics near you? You can request to have it done without a Dr's order, but then your insurance won't cover it.

im so sorry for your loss and how u r being treated basically they just do the hcg testing to make sure there is nothing from the baby like tissue still inside of u and also they usually do it b4 u have a d&c at leat a couple of time to make sure its going down
