Hey Everyone:
Just wanted to elaborate on my loss and bend your ears if you don't mind.
On November 27, 2006 I went into my OB/GYN's office for my regular yearly check up. While there, I had the IUD that I had put in place in July 2002 pulled. By December 1, 2006, I had started my first period in 4 years which lasted until December 7, 2006. Apparently I got pregnant right away. I also began to feel the symptoms of this pregnancy right away.
On January 10, 2007 I called and left a message on the Nurses Voice Mail at my Dr.'s office advising them that I was going to go ahead and have all the blood work done that day that had been ordered on November 27, 2006. At that point in time I asked if any of the tests being run would indicate if I were pregnant since I had been feeling so yucky. I received a call back advising me that there currently werent any tests on the original order that would determine if conception had taken place but that they would add an additional Beta hCG test to the original order which would. On January 11, 2007 I called my Dr.'s office and left a message inquiring as to whether or not the results from the blood tests were in. A Nurs called back while I was taking my daughter to school and left a message for me to call her. I called her back upon arriving back at home. She stated that, We have received back a portion of the results from your blood work and you are most definitely pregnant. Needless to say I was shocked due to the fact that we had just decided to start trying again at the tail end of November BUT at the same time I was elated. She advised me to go back for a follow-up Beta hCG test to make sure that my levels were increasing as the should be every 48 hours the following day. I called my husband at work and broke the news to him. We were both so very excited! On January 12, 2007 I went back to the lab to have another Beta hCG test done to verify that my levels had increased. On January 24, 2007, unfortunately our excitement turned into extreme concern when I began spotting. *Side note, when I was pregnant with my now 4.5 year old daughter I also spotted which is how I determined that I was pregnant, but after being put on Prometrium to raise my Progesterone level the spotting stopped. So anyway, I called the Dr.'s office and spoke to one of the Nurses on staff. She told me that since I was already taking Prometrium to help raise/maintain my Progesterone level to up it to twice daily (one in the morning and one at night) as opposed to once daily, to take it easy and just to come in on Thursday as I had planned. On January 25, 2007 I went in to the Dr.'s office to see one of the Nurse Practioner's and to have my initial pregnancy check up done. At this point in time I was advised to get an unbelievable amount of blood work done and to come back for an Ultrasound. I immediately questioned if there wasnt ANYONE there that could do one for me right then and there and was told, No even though I saw one of the doctors walking in the hallway. While I was waiting to checkout, the Nurse Practioner asked the girl at the desk if they had any openings for Ultrasounds on Friday. The girl behind the desk replied with, Yeah but Im holding it for someone else. I asked if they did Ultrasounds on Saturdays and she told me that they do but that they were all booked up and advised me that shed call me sometime in the next 24 hours to let me know, when they could get me in. She then implied that, I may not be able to get you in until Monday. I left the office with my husband and after having been on the road for all of 5 minutes I called back and asked if it was protocol to hold appointments when someone is in pretty serious need of having one. I was told that the girl that I had spoken with at the office would try to contact the patient that she had been holding the appointment for one more time and that shed call me back. Well, she called back; she told my husband that she could get me in on Friday at 11:45am so we grabbed the appointment. We got home Thursday night and tried to sleep not knowing whether or not I was in the early stages of a miscarriage.
On January 26, 2007, I went in to have the Ultrasound done. While we were waiting to have the Ultrasound done, I decided to approach the girl at the front desk. I asked her if there was anyone there that I could run some questions/comments by that I had failed to ask/make on Thursday. I was told that no one was there, that a nurse MAY be there by the time I was done with my Ultrasound and if not then I could leave a message. Within moments my own OB/GYN walked right by the window. Oh how very pissed and hurt I was. It really hit me right then and there that my doctors office doesnt even care about me and my wellbeing. Anyway, I went in and had the Ultrasound and much to our relief they found a heartbeat. The heart rate was 160 beats per minute which we were told was pretty great. After having my Ultrasound done I spoke with one of the nurses at which time I discussed some of my concerns and I brought to her attention the fact that as I had been advised by another nurse I was taking the Prometrium 2 times daily. Later that day I went and had all of my blood work done. While chatting with the Lab Tech at Lab I mentioned that I was supposed to come back on Monday to have my Beta hCG re-run. She checked the system and stated that there wasnt any order for me to return. At this point in time she advised me to contact the doctors office to ask them to re-submit the order so I did. On January 29, 2007, I called the doctors office to determine the results of the blood tests that I had done on Friday and I was advised that the preliminary results were back and that things looked okay. They went ahead and re-ordered the Beta hCG test and so I went back to Quest and had that done. On January 30, 2007, I received a call from one of the nurses advising me that while my Beta hCG level was rising my Progesterone level was still low. At this point in time she advised me to go ahead and take two Prometrium at bedtime. Due to my confusion I said, So dont take the one in the morning? She said, No, take them at bedtime since they are known to make you drowsy. I reminded her that as previously discussed on January 26, 2007 I had been taking one in the morning and one at night upon recommendation of the other nurse on January 24, 2007. She immediately put me on hold and when she came back on the phone she advised me to take three pills a day. I immediately asked her if she could call in the revised prescription to the pharmacy, she asked for their number and agreed to do so. I was also advised to have blood work done again next Monday to see if my Progesterone level has increased and to come in on Tuesday for another Ultrasound to see how things look then and to help ease my mind. On his way home from work, my husband stopped to pick up the medicine only to find out that the doctors office NEVER called it in. On February 5, 2007, I went into the Lab and had my blood drawn to make sure that my Progesterone level had increased with the increase in dosage of my Prometrium. On February 6, 2007, we went into the Dr.'s office for our follow-up Ultrasound. Upon arrival I asked another girl at the desk if she knew if the results of my blood work from the day before were back. She checked, was advised and in turn advised me that they looked great. Little did we know that our concern over the spotting over the last week and a half was about to turn into extreme dismay. While laying and having the Ultrasound done, I noticed that the babys heart beat was not jumping off the screen so to speak the way it was back on January 26, 2007. I asked the Technician if she wasnt finding a heartbeat and she said, Not yet. A moment later she advise me that she needed to step out to get one of the Dr.'s (another Doctor in the group) to come in and confirm her findings. The Dr. came in and just confirmed that we had lost our baby aka no heart beat was to be found. At this point, the Dr. discussed with me my three options. She explained that I could either go home and let Nature take it's course, I could go home with Meds to induce my passing the products of conception on my own or that I could go ahead and schedule a D&C. When I told her of my wishes to go ahead with the D&C she said that she thought that it would probably be well into the following week before I could do so. My husband immediately spoke up and asked if there wasn't any way that we could go ahead and get this done within the week considering that it was only Tuesday. She said that she'd talk to my Dr. and see if she could re-arrange her schedule but to go ahead and go home and wait for a call from the office. Not being able to just sit around and wait, on February 7, 2007, I left a message for the girl that schedules surgeries at my Dr.'s office to call me back. I also threw out the idea of another Dr. in the practice doing the D&C if my Dr. couldnt get me in to do so prior to the following week on her voice mail. After playing phone tag, scheduling the procedure at one Hospital and changing it to a different Hospital and time, the D&C was scheduled. On Friday, February 9, 2007, my Dr. did the D&C. Things went as well as can be expected. On Tuesday, February 13, 2007; my husband picked up Angela Christine (which is what we chose to name the baby) from the hospital. He immediately took her to a local church and had her blessed. My husband then took Angela Christine to a local Funeral Home where he works. Shell remain there until she is cremated. While I know that it may seem morbid to some, cremating her will give us total and complete closure.
So anyway, needless to say its been a rollercoaster of a month and here I sit feeling lost, alone, saddened and confused. If anyone has any ideas, feedback and or suggestions I'd love to hear them! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my book LOL!
Have a wonderful day!

i am so so sorry for your loss. i think you should consider switching obgyns. i go to a small one that only has one docter and every one knows me because theres only 7 people that work in the building. i do not think its morbid for you to cremate your daughter i did the same thing it took for ever for them to let me have her because babys that are less then 20 weeks arent suppose to leave the hospitle she was only 18 weeks. she is at the funrail home waiting to be barried right now.

I am very sorry for your loss. You are not morbid at all I wish I had buried my baby but since I opted for a home miscarriage there was no way to do so. unfortunately no one knows why we lost our babies. I know about doctors not giving a damn. when I started into losing my baby I was cramping badly and they were getting worse I was told to go to urgent care and 4 HOURS later I was scene given an US and told there was no heart beat. No one cared no one said I'm sorry nothing. I decided to go to another doctor HMO can sometimes be a good thing I ws given another US and told the same thing my baby was gone but they said they were sorry and gave me my options little did I know I would be sent to an abortion clinic had I known I would have had the DnC. You might try getting another doctor the doctor I had before I got the insurance I have now was with me every step of the way with our first child any question was never too small. Even when another obgyn died and he took on 40 new patients. good luck I am here if you need to talk
