My IVF doctor is refusing to do blood tests after my miscarriage!

He reckons that they are for people who have had multiple miscarriages! I am so angry! I mean they are waiting for me to loose another baby before they investigate! some of the tests are for things which are really treatable with folic acid and baby aspirin, but to him its more important that he is right rather than bending just a little for me and putting my mind at ease...

I am supposed to go for transfer next week and I completely stressed out about it, I mean what if I get pregnant from the FET only to loose the baby again.

Doctors are total BASTARDS!!!!

I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage.

One miscarriage is likely a chance occurrence, and tests are likely to show up nothing significant BUT considering the cost and invasiveness of a round of IVF, I would think identifying easily treatable causes would be a no-brainer. Aren't the cost of the blood tests minimal compared to 3 failed rounds of IVF to "prove" that? (normally 3 miscarriages is the criteria for investigation).

Have you raised this point with him? If you have and he doesn't budge or even if you haven't and you just think his ego is too involved, it might be time for a second opinion.

Not all doctors are bastards. If you think this one is, find another even if it is only for the tests.

Hun, I totally agree with Elisheva in regards to trying another doctor, even if just for the tests. When I went back to my OB after my miscarriage, he did not thing it was necessary to do blood tests, and just said, "See you again when you are pregnant" So I found a high risk OB, who did not hesitate in doing the tests. What they found is a condition that is easily treated with asprin, if I had listened to first OB, would have known none of this. Good luck, let me know how you go.

What I have learned over the past 2 months since dealing with the MC is that doctors will go off of what they have previously researched because it saves time. The doctor comes in, reads results, talks to you for a few minutes, and rushes off to the next patient.

I had to become more proactive in dealing with the doctors. I have had to do research on my own (which I think is ridiculous because they get paid entirely too much money) and bring my findings to the doctor. I think there are good doctors like my family practice doctor is good, but I haven't found a good obgyn yet though. You have to basically tell them that I want this done, if they tell you no, then ask why. If their reason is not good enough, then you should definitely find another doctor.

Don't feel bad about it because that is what they get paid for. After all, you and your insurance company are going to be the ones to pay for those blood tests not them.

I find it odd though that he wouldn't run blood tests because I had several done for me after the MC. They should be checking to make sure that your blood levels return to normal.

Sorry to hear that... I know normally they like to wait until someone has had multiple miscarriages.... but I know some doctors will do testing if requested by the patient. Is there anyway you could go to a different doctor to order the tests? I mean it's your body. Can you postpone the transfer? Some of the testing they do takes a few weeks for the results though, just to prepare yourself. I hope you can find the help you need!
