Hugs to you and thank you and your husband for your service. I know you are not the active duty member but supporting spouses are what all members to serve and therefore, you are an honorary service member as well. My sister in-law recently moved into her mom's house while my brother was out on deployment. It has been stressful for her as the original plans changes ie: their one year old was supposed to get his own room but that changed putting mommy and baby in the same room. So baby would just crawl into mom's bed every night. Very hard habit to break btw.

Bottom line is, you know your parent's best. Will they be supportive of you? What are their expectations? What happens if your husband's deployment gets extended? Will they stress you out? Will having the grandbaby around all the time stress them out? All of these things and more should be pondered and discussed. The last thing you would want is to have a strained relationship with your parents after all of this.

I say do what you feel will make you happy. If you think your parents will be supportive and not overbearing than go for it! It's nice to have extra help and support during deployments. Personally, this option would drive me absolutely nuts! I can only handle visits on a short term basis! :P

The big issue with this decision is my parents are divorced, but they live next door to each other. I know it's a weird situation! I brought the idea up with my mom first because I am more comfortable in her house, the house I grew up in. She welcomed the idea then decided she would charge me 400 a month in rent. I understand some of the bills would go up, but she also wanted me to cook and pay for all of my groceries as well. My son and I would also be sharing a room. My dad on the other hand wants me to save as much money as I can while my husband is gone. He expects help around the house but will not charge me rent. My son and I would share a room here as well. It basically boils down to what is more important to me right now... comfort or saving a few extra thousand dollars. I just feel that my dad would be more welcoming with his attitude about the situation, and my mom and I would have more disagreements. I just hate choosing because I know someone's feelings are going to get hurt!

You brought up some great points. It would be helpful to weigh both the costs and the benefits. Would the comfort be worth $400 a month and possible disagreements with your mom? Or would living rent free and saving money be worth having your mom upset about your decision? You mentioned that your parents are divorced, but maybe you could talk to each one about your concerns. From the discussion you may be able to see where you would have the most support. If they live next door to one another you would still be able to see each parent regardless of your decision, right?

Them living next door to each other does make it easier. Let's say I decide to stay with my dad, which I am leaning toward right now, there is nothing stopping me from packing a bag and spending a weekend with my mom if I wanted to. I think it will all come down to me having an open and honest discussion with each of them. I just need to lay everything on the table and let them know what I need from them during this time and what they can expect from me. Whoever I feel is more supportive after that will probably be the best option. Thanks for all the advice :)

It sounds like you have a great plan! I am sure both parents will be supportive and understanding with whatever you choose. Good luck! Deployment times sure can be stressful.

My mom moved back to Puerto Rico with her family while I was a baby and my dad was stationed in Europe. My mom said it helped alot because she had a familiar support system, that being her family, and she didnt feel as isolated and alone. I read through the posts and saw that you have a unique situation, so my best guess would be to make a decision that would create the least amount of stress and resentment. At the end of the day, family will be family and even if, say mom, is mad, she will eventually understand why you decided to move in with dad, which for you was the most financially sound option.
