Each time I move I am faced with the same question...."how many children do you have?" When I reply that I don't have any children, there is usually a litany of questions and then the ostracism begins. When I share that I am getting my master's, I get scrutinized for that as well as if I'm not full-filling my "role as a woman" and pushing kids out. Has anyone dealt with this? I feel like I get punished for choosing my education and career goals over having children.

I can totally relate to this! I am also getting my master's degree and should graduate in 2016. What is your degree in? Many people would ask us why we didn't have kids. I would always say "oh we will have kids when the time is right". We PCS'd overseas and decided that was the time! We actually just had our first child in July. Even though our situation is different now, I can understand your frustrations. Don't let others bring you down. You can have kids when you feel the time is right! Believe me, it's not easy having a little one and working on your education and starting a new career.

Thanks you for the response and words of encouragement! The worst I think is after I tell them I'm getting my master's and they say "what for?" I feel like I'm stuck in the 40s or 50s. Congratulations on your new baby! I can't imagine trying to take care of a little one and work on school. My master's is in Marriage and Family Therapy. What about you?

Thank you! People are so funny! I feel like my education is important even if I'm not currently using it. I have been staying at home focusing on finishing up my degree and raising our baby. My degree is in mental health counseling. Sounds like we have similar interests! Where do you attend school?

If you and your ex-partner have children, youre both expected to continue to pay towards their costs after you separate. And often that means one parent will pay the other. You can agree this between you or, if you cant agree, ask the Child Maintenance Service to calculate the amount.
