Today's military family faces a lifestyle that is comprised of frequent deployments, which results in increased family separations. This often proves to be a stressful challenge for military families. This community is dedicated to the families that are dealing with the unique challenges of distance and military-related stress.
My boyfriend is in the national guard and found out he will be deploying next year. I'm extremely nervous because when I was 18 I had a boyfriend who deployed to Iraq and it didn't work out cause he cheated. I know my boyfriend loves me and he says before he deploys he wants to be engaged to me. I'd like to be married before he deploys but he wants to have more money for a wedding and I think he wants to make sure i'm still here after his deployment. i'd rather be married before, then he'd know i'd be here when he gets back. But I respect what he wants.
anyways, his drills are torture as it is. They're getting longer since he's being deployed. I'm really scared about his deployments, I have dreams about him getting hurt but he says he'll be okay. I worry that our relationship won't make it through deployment. I love him so much and I don't want to lose him. But won't all that time apart make him lose love for me? Won't his feelings change? He feels loved when I hug him and give him physical affection, I won't be able to do that when he's gone.

my story is different from yours but I was separated from my then boyfriend for 13 months. We were 8 hours away so is a lot different. We talked on the phone as much as we could and we got to know each other's fears and problems. Hang In there and don't be too worried! This is the time when he will need you the most. That love that you two have for each other will just get stronger if you two work hard on it. Being a military spouse is not easy but being a soldier has it's difficulties too. Make sure that the time you spend with him now will give you confidence for the future! Leave it in God's hands and trust in him to make any situation better.
