Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Good luck with the new meds.
I am not familiar with Zonegran.
My guess would be closer to any ONE preventative "working" many people do have luck with preventatives, that doesn't mean they NEVER get migraines, just that they are less common. I know the Zoloft I take works as a preventative, despite my being chronic and intractable. The migraines are worse without it, so it does work some. Few people get by with ONLY a preventative.
your doctor should also know better that just because something works for him, it likewise will work for everybody. Saying "Two litres of Sprite works for all headaches." with NO FDA or AMA backing is a little anecdotal for a doctor to say. A better way to have phrased it would have been, "This works for me." But, again, fluid works for some people. I've NEVER had fluid CURE a migraine, but I keep myself highly hydrated all the time. I hope this doctor isn't a "drugs aren't the answer" kind of guy. The "only 20% chance of preventatives working." (Which if he meant ALL preventives put together is TOTALLY wrong) and "Sprite cures headaches." I kind of wonder what his bottom line philosophy on Pain Treatment is.
I remember when I had one extremely painful migraine and no pills worked, he said get Sprite and start drinking. I think part of the reason it works is because some people like me don't care for water. So if you can get a lot of any fluid down, you are doing better than not.
I also agree that he is probably typically dehydrated. I am too.
