Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

Worst one yet....

I seem to say that a lot lately, but today's really had to be the worse yet. To make it worse our kids and grandkids were here, 15 people in all, and there had to be a baby crying or a small one screaming pretty much all the time. I went in my dark room and put earplugs in and wrapped my head with pillows & came out to eat dinner with sunglasses on. Plus I maxed out on imitrex and fioricet. I wish all that helped. My daugher was formerly an ER nurse at the local hospital and she called over there and they have some kind of "fast track" ER and they told her there was no-one in the waiting room. It was very tempting....yet I'm reluctant to make that first ER visit for migraines. I know it won't be the last.

What a day you had. Sorry you weren't able to enjoy your family. I went to the ER a couple of times, but we have 1 dr, there on night shift and he is a SMART ELLICK (spelling?) BAD, nobody where I live likes him, and on my last visit, my husband told him that after 6 years of fighting these headaches, what my Dr, had found that would work, and he said, I don't give narcotics for a headache, My husband tried to tell him, that my blood sugar and pressure always got really high, and needed to get them back down as soon as possible, so I went in with one of the severe ones, vomiting and all that good stuff, and the left the same way!! So I don't go there anymore, prior to that visit, I had only been 2 times in 6 years, this was the first with this new Dr, and the last!!!! I hope you feel better soon. God Bless You!! Lori

sorry to hear about your bad day!!! I hate it when these dayum headaches ruin a great day. but what I wanted to share with you is please dont be afraid to go to the ER. I am not a huge ER user myself, but there are just some times you need it. In the 7 years I have been dealing with these I think I have gone 4 times. If you need it go.

i fight it, my family makes me go, I say I dont need it I cam strong.. but ya know what,, We may be strong, but we are also HUMAN.. we can only fight it and handle the bads ones for so long.

Good luck to ya.. and be strong.. not stupid ( thats what my husband says to me when I am thinking I can handle it)

Yeah, I try and only use the ER when I'm at the point where I can't keep my medication down, and when I absolutely need fluids. And even then there are times when I have to ASK for IV fluids, which is ridiculous.

Sunglasses are my best friend. My house has Eclipse curtains up everywhere, but at work..I have it all worked out with my employer to where sunglasses all the time, and sometimes I wear my hat.

Take that ER trip. It is worth it. I've done it before and would do it again. Of course, they keep you there for an hour or so to be sure that everything is okay, but once the morphine hits you, you drift off to sleep. When I go, they also give me phenegren. Today, I'm having my second migraine in a week. I took my Relpax and it has subsided, but two migraines in a week is not good. I can't talk to my doctor about my migraines as with my new insurance coverage, they won't cover migraine treatment for two years. I can still get my meds, but the doctor cannot note in my chart that we discussed migraines. That also means I can't see a neurologist for this problem. This is the only coverage I could get as I have high cholesterol, asthma and migraines. I have been rejected from Aetna and BCBS because of those 3 things. I've had migraines since I was 16 and have had brain scans, etc. I could see if they exempted me for a year, but two years???
