Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
the craving begin a few days before. Now I looked up migraines and full moon and there are tons of people who claim of cravings mood swings, and migraines during this time. Hey with all the other triggers who know. Had a migraine yesterday as well.
In the past, it was something I wanted, this time I had to have it.
The issue regarding chocolate and not caffeine is an interesting one. It is hard to separate at times.
I love one particular brand of decaf tea (from Ireland) but if I use Red Rose I won't have migraines and if I use the Irish brand I might get a migraine.
I crave sweets a lot, so I'm curious about your research, starkeeper. What if what I'm craving is what's destroying my life?
Also, we need to remember, the amount of caffiene in chocolate is NEGLIGABLE, there is barely ANY caffeine in chocolate, even strong, high "caoco" ultra dark chocolate. There IS a chem called Theophyllyn, which is similar to caffiene and is a strong vasodilator, which is only one of the several reason choclate triggers migraines in many of us.
Chocolate also contains Tyromine and Tyrosine, (one is an amino acid) which is known to trigger migraines in some. ALSO, chocolate "beans" have to be fermented to get them out of the shell, so THERE IS AN OTHER REASON for trigger. Fermented foods effect many of us.
I find that I can eat chocolate in small amounts, as long as I don't have my period. Also, I have to be careful with the great stuff for a few days AFTER my period. The rest of the month, I seem OK with chocolate, which is good because I LOVE it so much.
Reading this post made me want chocolate though haha...
The full moon idea is very interesting..
Therefore, I have to question if perhaps for some people, caffeine works in reverse.
That is very interesting about the fermenting process with cocoa. I have a lot of trouble with mold and fermentation. Allergies and migraines. The chocolate thing is a bummer, though, b/c I love chocolate. But, my reaction was so bad and so quick, that I haven't craved it since I stopped.
