Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
I've had migraines for as long as I can remember but they became chronic about 10 years ago. I'm not able to tolerate the preventive drugs, and diet, supplements, the usual stuff don't seem to help. Botox has taken them from daily to 15 to 20 per month. This considered successful treatment. I was using triptans for abortive. However last year I developed Afib. I had ablation and now I experience Afib only rarely and for very short periods of time. But my migraine specialist will no longer prescribe triptans for me due to the Afib and risk of stroke. The anti inflammatory he has prescribed as my only abortive option does just about nothing. I admit that I have resorted to using the hydrocodone I have for fibromyalgia pain to keep myself out of the ER.
I'm very discouraged about this. Things were difficult enough and now no relief at all when the migraines strike.
I'm considering going to a clinic. A dr friend of mine recommended the Diamind Clinic in Chicago. I'm in FL.
I'd like to hear from any of you who have tried going to a clinic far from home and what the results have been. Are you able to work with them long distance once established?
Has anyone been to the Diamind Clinic or can anyone recommend any other clinics?

I go to the Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia, which is just amazing. I always see people in there from out of state. Normally, they come in the night before, have the appointment in the morning, then they leave after their appointment.
The Diamond Clinic is excellent, so is Jefferson, Cleveland clinic, and Mayo Clinic. But as I said, do some research and see what you can find closer to you.
I'm sorry you are going through this. I have chronic daily migraines. I do have abortives, but sometimes they don't work. I know the pain you have.
