Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
One of the things I was taught, by Seymour himself was to sleep about the same number of hours each night, if possible. No oversleeping, no staying up to late. He told me (as I was in college at the time I saw him) "If you want to sleep in, set your alarm for the time you usually wake up, get some fluid, some food, carbs, proteins and fats, and then go back go bed." This almost always works!
If I sleep too much it is worse than not sleeping enough. I remember when my last baby was tiny. I actually started getting more migraines when she started sleeping more than 2 hours at a time, because through the pregnancy and her early months, I was up every 2 hours. It took a while to be able to sleep 3 or 4 hours (and of course by that point she decided that she wanted to wake up frequently again.)
There are theories that it may have something to do with carbon dioxide building up in the blood while you sleep, neurotransmitter theories etc. But, "sleep hygiene" really makes a different.
Take it a little at a time. Tell yourself "Today, I'll put on cover up and some eye liner." Then the next day a little more and eventually it gets better.
Hugs, Punkee.
