Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
On top of those answers, when I'm in the midst of a bad migraine....well a lot of people find relief being in a dark room. But I always use ice packs, on my head and neck. Most of the time, the ice gives you a really good numbing effect for awhile.
Another thing I'll do is through myself into a hot shower. That works because the hot water will dilate the other blood vessels in your body, taking pressure off the blood vessels in your head, relieving the pounding. Granted, sometimes the effect is only temporary, but at times I can get a few hours of relief out of that.
You can also try adding a magnesium supplement to your diet. Many people, when suffering a migraine attack, are very low in magnesium. For some people, just adding 400 mg of magnesium a day find a world of difference.
