Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Late last night I took a Sudafed because I felt like I was starting with a cold. I went to bed but could not sleep.
I got up at 2am and checked the ingredients on Google and found that Sudafed has 25mg. of caffeine.
NOW I wish I had known that because-
1. I am starting with a migraine
2. I would have preferred to have chocolate if I was going to have caffeine.
I just thought I would pass this information on in case it might apply to others as well.

Sudafed must have changed their ingredients; it used have pseudoephedrine as it's only active ingredient (and became a "ask the pharmacist for it" medication when the DEA required pharmacies to account for the sales of meds with pseudoephedrine). Pseudoephedrine alone would make me hyper and prevent me from sleeping; most decongestants do. FYI: they're also contraindicated in patients with high blood pressure because they can further raise your blood pressure.
The original types of Sudafed contain pseudoephedrine as the active ingredient. They are still available OTC but now you have to ask the pharmacist for them (due to it's misuse in making methamphetamines). The newer form of Sudafed contains phenylephrine as the active ingredient.
Pseudoephedrine is more effective at relieving congestion but has more side effects (insomnia being a common one). I am very sensitive to decongestants and can only take them during the day, NEVER at night. When I have a cold, I have to get decongestant-free cold medicine for night use or else I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Frankly, it was the middle of the night (2am or so) and it was faster to check the lap top than find the box because the lap top was in my bedroom.
