Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

There was a segment on tv about a man getting relief from cluster headaches in 15 minutes the other day. His dr let him breathe pure oxygen. There is a lot of info on internet about migraines and oxygen. I have read that possibly it is a lack of oxygen the causes inflammation and the pain. I asked my dr. and he seemed skeptical said it wasn't proven. Must have a prescription in the United States. I don't know what the cost would be. Or insurance would pay. With all the drugs we take and side effects I don't know if it would be worse. I wish I could try it. Anybody ever hear of this/?

No, I haven't heard of it nor have I tried it but I am all for ways to combat migraines that have nothing to do with the pharmaceutical companies. For the most part, they control the medical field and that doesn't make them always right.

It would really be something if oxygen could provide relief. Just imagine how that would affect the drug companies

From my experience, pure oxygen does relieve migraines. I see my chiropracter weekly, and if I have a migraine when I come to her office, she always puts me on oxygen while I am there. Also, it is paid for 100% by my insurance.

My Dad suffered with migraines and so did my Mom. But he told me that when he was in the Air Force and was hungover that they would get in the cockpits of the planes and breath in pure oxygen and that it would take their headaches away completely. So I believe them. Plus when I had my sinus surgery I got instant headache releif for quite a while and I think it was due in part to the fact that I could breathe better. Maybe the quit dark rooms where we go to sleep help because we are breathing better when we are relaxing to sleep too?????

i have tried oxygen and it seems to help about 75% of the time. I don't know how or why it works but it does more often than not. It is definitely worth talking to your doctor about and giving it a shot.

Sounds interesting, though! Makes sense - since migraines have a lot to do with blood, blood flow, blood vessels, etc - that extra oxygen might take the edge off?

i tried oxygen therapy but it just made me feel panicky...light headed..too much oxygen and never helped my migraines
please read my post on what has diminished my migraines..i had continuous migraines for years and am finally better...i'd be happy to answer and questions and help in any way i can.
hang in there..i know what hell it can be.
