odd migraine-like headache thing

hi. my name is fallon. i began having migraines in my freshman year of college. my migraines are light sensitive and very severe. usually, if i'm out of immitrex (medicaid only gives me 9 a month.) i just have to take 1,000+ mg of pain pills and go to bed. the pain usually starts on one side of my head and spreads. the pain is always behind my eyes,and i'm always light-sensitive.

today when i was talking to my boyfriend, i suddenly got a bad headache. the pain began on the left side of my head,and was behind my left eye. i was not light or sound sensitive. i'm out of immitrex. so i took 1,000 mg of acudaminaphin, and went tomy sister's orchestra concert. the pain didn't spread. i wasn't light or sound sensitive. but 4 pain pills later (@ 500mg/each) the pain didn't go away. it only dulled. so what's up? any thoughts?

Whenever you experience a new type of headache, you need to seek medical advice quickly. A new type of headche is an indication that something has changed neurologically. It could be something unremarkable, but it could also be something serious, and that's why you need to seek medical care. Make an appointment with your GP on an urgent care basis to get checked to ensure there's not something going wrong.

On a separate note, at least one form of ergotomine, another migraine abortive, is available at WalMart and via the other $4 generic programs. As Medicaid limites you to 9 Imitrex per month, you may want to talk with your doctor about ergots and perhaps your doctor can also give you a prescription for ergotamine and you can get it filled at WalMart or through one of the other $4 generic programs (you shouldn't have to show any insurance card) and thus have some additional migraine specific rescue medication available.

thank you SOOO much! ubfortunatly, i still have the headache from last night. i just took 2 excedrin, and it seems to help a little. i just made an appointment with my nurse practicioner (similar to a regular doctor, except she can't do surgery.) on the 4th of next month. i will keep the walmart and new medication info in mind. i'm thinking about switching to walmart anyway, because buses go there. and i could do my grocery shopping and get my medicines all at the same time.
