Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

This morning I got an ocular migraine at work. I have had them many times, but it has been about 6 months this time. Nothing really triggered it. I teach high school, and I was with my students in a computer lab and I as got really hot and the lighting in there has affected me before. So I had someone cover my class for a bit and went to a dark office and sat for an hour or so. By that time the headache came, I was a bit nauseous and out of it feeling, and asked that they cover the rest of my day so I could go home.

I am in menopause. The last period was 6 years ago. I don't take anything as far as prescription medicine for them...just some Aleve. However, I do take Gabapentin for my bad back pain.

Since these probably aren't hormonal anymore, why do I still get them??

Can I ask what you mean by ocular migraine? Many people use that term because there is terrible pain in the eyes, but the actual definition of an ocular migraine is vision loss or blindness in one eye along with or after the migraine.

Megsmom, when overhead lights bother me I wear a hat with a brim, or even a baseball cap. I really have problems in restaurants when the room light is low, but the table has an overhead lamp...ow, ow, ow. I've even had to go out to the car to get a cap to put on when the lighting is bad for me. Blocking the overhead lights helps a lot.

YvetteK. I get the vision loss and see the zig zags and strange flashing in my eyes. I usually get it in one eye, but it isn't the same eye each time. I get an aura first, so I know I have about 5-10 minutes before it all is going to come at me.

Age and hormones don't always predict the end of migraines. My mother is now 72 and she still gets migraines at least 3 times a week. I remember when she was going through menopause. The doctors told her she wouldn't get migraines any longer. They were completely wrong. Later she had a hysterectomy and her ovaries removed. She still got the migraines. I know I'm going down the same path as her. Everyone on my mother's side of the family has horrible, horrible migraines.

I wish I had something to look forward to as I get older, but the end of migraines is not it.

Mine are worse as I get older too. I don't think they are hormone related anymore, although I do know at one time they were somewhat of a trigger. I found that as I have gone through menopause that my anxiety is worse, and my ability to handle high stress situations is reduced, so that could be the reason for some of my migraines also.

i get ocular migraines and i get them more often than i did when i was younger. I experience zig zag lines and vision loss in both eyes but i get no headache however i do few i have rise in anxiety and feel a little depressed. is there anyone who experienes the same thanks

That sounds a lot like mine. Add in the vertigo. Sometimes I don't really get the headache, but I get exhausted once everything passes.

megsmom yes that is what i get and couple days after feel shitty and down there seem to be triggers like red wine triggers but i really think this is a result of a storm hitting florida these last too days and the barometric pressure. What is you thought and what bothers you or brings yours on
