i am new to this group but not DS. I have had migraines since i can remember but lately they are getting worse and I have started to have blindness before the migraine. My PCP took away all my meds for fibromyalgia and sent me to NEURO. I went today and was checked out and he gave me TOPOMAX. For those of you who have took it does it work as I am at my wits end here. I get so mean when i have a migraine and I do not want to see anyone. i cannot sleep or eat or rest. I go for a MRI on Friday and a sleep test next week. So now i have to hurt all over (except for my head if the topomas works) until I get this MRI. Why me? I dont understand.

The answer to "why me?" is, why not you? That is a bitter pill to swallow, but I have come to accept that. We each have life's burdens to deal with and for some of us that burden is physical pain. I, too, have Fibro and Migraines. The Migraines increased significantly as the Fibro took over. I have tried a lot of things that didn't help. At the present I am having the best pain managment I have had ever. My pain specialist also diagnosed Hughes Syndrome, a form of Migraines caused b "sticky" blood. Something to do with platelets. Anyway, I take a blood thinner. Heparin, twice a day under my tongue and it has reduced the incidence of Migraine from 2 or 3 days a week in bed to NO headaches in 3 months!!!
I am also taking Savella, a new treatment for Fibro/ anti-depresant that seems to relly be helping. I would reseach Hughe Syndrome oand give the info to the doctor. You need a specific blood test to determine if that is what you have.
Also, I was on the Marshall Protocol for Fibro for about 3 years and it really helped reduce my Fibro symptoms. It is a bit controversial because it severely limits your intake of vitamin D. but, it worked for me. Good luck. You are not alone in your suffering.

Sticky blood That sound familiar. Did you notice a difference if you cut yourself as When I cut my finger the other day it was awfully thick. and I have other problems also that may come back to that. I have had alot of test but would have to check to see what all I have been tested for. My issues have progressed alot in the past year. I was med free until last year at this time then like lighting it hit me. I used to have flares but they lasted a few weeks and then gone this has been a year now...............

My family has factor 2, that makes us more suseptable to blood clots and other issues. Now I'm wondering if that has anything to do with my migraines?

SO far No migraine But feel lik ei am in a pressure tunnel and all sodas have lost their flavor for me. Dr. Said I would lose weight lol no wonder I will no longer be drinking sodas lol. Go in the Am for the MRI!!!!!

I too have fibro, migraines and cluster headaches. I have just found a doctor who is taking the time to help me. I just started Topamax last night and i am praying that it works. They are going to try Lyrica in a couple weeks as well, but want to only try one medication at a time in case there is a reaction. I have heard mixed reviews on Topamax, but I just pray that we are on the good side of the reviews:)

Well on 2nd day of topomax and no migraines and have been able to sleep thank god. But nothing taste the same guess that is why they say you loose weight.
