Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

I have tests scheduled for my brain to test for tumors, bleeding, and such on thursday and I was wondering what do I do to prepare for the tests? there both an MRI one is with dye and one is without. And honestly ya im scared, I just recently came off a migraine headache that lasted for 2 weeks, with vomiting and nausea. But I also had an unrelated issue going on at the same time to cause the abdom pain. i also had blurred vision, loud noises, and light bothered me, and smells. Is that normal of a migraine? I am just so uncertain....anyone out there that can calm my nerves I would appreciate it...

Yes all those are symptoms of migraine,I have them all. I had MRI with out dye and a cat scan ,all turned out ok, I have migraines for 2 years now they can last for a while then just go away and come back, when you have one stay away from light and sun and hopefully they gave you med. to help with vomiting and nausea. They do not know why I get them but stress does bring them on,good luck do not worry, let us know how it turns out, many hugs to you, Squarley

Hi mssop, i have had the tests you are talking about many times. It can be a little unnerveing because you must be still and your head is encased inside the scanner. If you are claustophobic they will give you a tranquilizer. At least that is what they do where i live. I have had these headaches for over 30 yrs. I hope you get better soon.

theres nothing to worry about with these tests. im 16 but have had them done several times both with contrast and without. the only thing you have to prepare for is no eating for 4 hours before the test with die. youll get an iv which is the only thing that hurts a little so theres nothing to be worried about. compared to my spine mri, the brain one was a piece of cake because it was 30 minutes vs. 2 hours. dont be too worried, everything will be fine :)

Might be scary but sometimes when these things actually are happening it is a step by step thing and it's over quicker than the ages spent at the hospital seem. My thoughts are also for those who love you. They will be scared for you. Lots of hugs time.

I don't know my results yet I find out on thurs whether or not there is something wrong with my head...but I don't know how much longer I can do this. It feels like I have been getting headaches everyday! I just can't do this anymore! They completely knock me out all day, I get sick to my stomach my head pounds like a big drum and I don't know what to do! UGH!! I have gone to the ER a couple of times and they think I am just there for pain meds and send me home. With no treatment...im at a loss, I feel like my life is at a stand still....and my head is a ticking time bomb...

I know how you feel - I have been through alot of different tests for my brain - I have another disease that causes headaches/migraines and they are trying to "fix" me. I just had a venogram done last week (where they go up through your groin area to check my ventricles, if they are narrowed blocked, etc...) I have also had an MRI, and many CT-V's with the contrast dye. Not to make light of it, but your head/thinking almost makes it worse than it really is. I try to not spend too much time thinking about my tests because then I will just get worked up. I know I need them and have to get them done to get better so I just pray that all will go well and try to stay calm. I understand this is all easier said then done but believe me . . . I have experience.
I hope your tests go well and that they figure out something for you. :)

I'm so sorry to hear the ER has sent you home with no treatment. You may want to ask for some anti-nauseau meds. The last trip to ER for me...given dilaudid and sent home with some relief only to have pain come back. Anti-naseau meds (phenergan) I had on hand is what saved me and allowed me to sleep through the end of the nightmarish pain.

I hope you find some answers and some meds that help you soon.
