Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

I believe I have eliminated my migraines, at least I have been fine for the past month under circumstances which historically have caused migraines, not eating, stress.

My internist about three years ago suggested high blood pressure was causing the migraines. I was reluctant to take a drug and periodically my pressure would be all right. Recently I was having problems with nausea and vomiting and my pressure was elevated. I was then taken to the emergency room with severe blood pressure and elevated blood pressure caused substantial kidney problems.

My point is that allowing elevated blood pressure with headaches can be dangerous. I am doing better on blood pressure medication. I should have listened to my doctor sooner.

Do check if headaches can be attributable to some type of underlying problem.

I take blood pressure medication because when I have a migraine, or am in pain, or with some illnesses (like sinus infection and the pain I get from it, illness that causes diahrea with stomach cramping, etc.) it makes my blood pressure rise from normal to high. So they put me on blood pressure medication twice a day and I've been on for two years. Does nothing to stop migraines for me.

many blood pressure medications are known to help migraine pain. For me, it helps for a few months then stops. I've never had ongoing high blood pressure, but my doctors feels it good to keep me on it.

I will say that when I have a bad migraine, my blood pressure does rise significantly, even being on the medication. I guess I really don't want to see how high it would be if I wasn't on the medicine.

There are many blood pressure medication that treats migraines. I was having horrible migraines and notice that my blood pressure was high. After recording it for about a month I went to the doctor and he put me on something for my blood pressure and it help with the headaches.

Blood pressure meds was the first thing my Dr tried for my Migraines. All it did for me was, made me collapse at home. When med help arrived, my pressure was 38. What my Dr didn't know was, that I had natural low blood pressure.

I know for a fact that it was my high blood pressure that was causing my migraines because along with my head pounding, I could feel my whole body throbbing, not in a aching way, but in a pulsing way. It took me a few years to finally decide to take medication to control my blood pressure. About two and a half months after being on the blood pressure medication, my blood pressure was under control, and I went from having migraines 3 to 4 days a week to 3 or 4 times year, if that.

Good comments everyone. All I can say is that for me, in the midst of various triggers, I have not had a migraine in the last 45 days.

I've always been on Clonodine as part of my Cluster Migraine Regimen, it was one of the first meds my Neuro put me on along with Topomax.

Congratulations on finding a solution. I want to scold you for ignoring your doctor's advice for three years. I have high BP and it's given me brain damage that shows on my MRI's - not something you want.
