Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
I am so excited I just wanted to share. My insurance company has only allowed 4 Relpax per month for me. I appealed and was turned down. At that point I started taking whatever samples my neurologist gave me which included Frova and Maxalt.
Then I appealed the second time and I got turned down but learned that I cold have 4 Relpax a month and 4 Frova. By this point though, I was already waiting for the response to my second appeal.
Soon after getting turned down a second time, I had 14 migraines in one month so even the 8 pills were not enough to cover me. I did learn from this board though that I could order medication every 3 weeks rather than every 4 weeks so I was able to get more pills, more often.
By this time, I still didn't have enough pills for extremely bad months so I went ahead and appealed for the third time to our State Insurance Department. I live in a state of over 6 million people but when I called and asked for their case number they said, oh we don't get too many of these appeals. Just give us your name and we can find you. I was very surprised about that.
Anyway, today I found out that I won the appeal and they have to give me 16 Relpax. Now, I am anxious to see if I can still get the 4 Frova as well because I do like that if I need to be out and about. The Relpax eventually makes me tired and I have to take a 2 hour nap sometime during the day. OR I can take them at bedtime, sleep on it and I am usually good.
Anyone else have appeal stories?

I am glad you will be getting a decent amount of pain relief.
If Congress only has a cujones to FIX the Health Care Industry (IF they do) thing will get better for everyone. Not many people know you CAN fight them.
From what I understand Congress has no intention of touching the pharmaceutical companies because they have strong lobbies. They need to force pre-existing to be accepted and they need to control the cost of monthly healthcare costs.
I was just told by a friend that people who have to pay for their own insurance and they are on dialysis oftentimes have their insurance raised to $2500 a MONTH. Like what you are going through isn't difficult enough.
I started taking Namenda a few weeks ago and so far it seems to be helping (after years of Topamax, the effectiveness of it had worn off).
