Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
I had to have this conversation with my headache specialist. Sometimes these headaches hit me on a Friday, and if I had to call my neurologist, I'd have to wait until Monday. I would be screwed. I could have my sister call in the script because she is a physician's assistant, but I hate asking her, and I want my doctor to know every time I'm taking the steroid.
So, from what he told me, having a script on hand for steroids is not something he does, but I'm one of his worst patients, so I guess he made an exception.
I'm not sure how often you get the headaches that you need the steroids, but if you don't NEED to take them now, I wouldn't. I would hold on to them for the NEXT TIME you get that type of migraine. Mind you, still ask for the steroids next time also, but this way, you always have a dose on hand.
i now try to ALWAYS have a migraine med in my drawer in case i get a doozy!
last wk my dr gave me a free sample of "Cambia" its a powder you mix with a little water & drink right away. it worked wonders for me. i am going to ask for more next time, although its expensive as hell.
better to have it & not need it,,,than to need it & not have it.
