Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Talk to your doctor about which ones could help you.
Good luck
Topomax is a daily treatment, I was on it for awhile but couldn't tolerate the side effects (my hands and feet were totally numb--too weird). There are lots of daily medications--amytripeline and propanol(a beta blocker) are two examples. My neuro. also had me try butterbur which is an herbal supplement. Unfortunately I was allergic to most of these or didn't tolerate the side effects.
So far I've had the best luck with meds I take on the first onset of migraines. Imitrex has worked the best for me so far, and my neuro has me take aleve along with it. There are other medications like imitrex out there-relpax is one I want to try but my insurance doesn't pay for enough of it for me to be able to afford it. I am going to also try Mexalt. I was also on Midrin for awhile but wasn't strong enough.
Hope this helps:) I've been on almost everything...
There are LOTS of things out there by prescription, talk to your general doctor or a neurologist for what would be best for you.
