hello, im new to the group. i get these mega migraines everytime i get some kind of infection. it starts out as a bad cough, then it goes into migraine mode. and these last for more than 6 days at a time!!! after the migraines i get debilitating anxiety and depression that just wont shake!!! i also have trigger points in my muscles that flare up after a migraine attack. im wondering if i am the only one who suffers like this? any suggestions? the meds i take usually do diddly squat for these headaches. i also get burning in my muscles of the neck and back that wont go away either!!!! i had a migraine in may of 2008 that lasted 5 days but the anxiety and depression never left!!!!!! i also have trigger points in my muscles that may be the culprit of it all.....who knows. help!!!!

The only thing that has helped me get rid of my depression and anxiety is going on a gluten free diet. I also had severe anxiety attacks and terrible depression and they were worse with my migraines. As for the muscle tension/pain have you tried taking a muscle relaxer instead of the migraine med or along with the migraine med? I use ultram along with imitrex and usually sleep for about an hour or two and the pain goes away. Every person is different but I get the muscle pain in my neck and upper back and it's very severe so taking those 2 meds together is the only thing that will get rid of the pain. Sometimes you just need to find the right combination.

thanks for the insight, I really want to try something like a antidepressant for the pain, something like Elavil might help me the best. the muscle pain sends signals to the brain that knocks off the levels of serotonin and all that other good stuff and that is what i think causes my migraines. humph!!! if only antidepressants didnt have such crazy side effects, but im willing to do anything to live a somewhat normal life!!!!

I was on Elavil before and it makes you really sleepy at first but that eases up, hopefully it will work for you because I know a lot of people who have had success with it even on a small dose. Something else that works really well is Propranolol although you can be a bit dizzy at first when you take it but that also eases up over time, just be careful if you go out in the sun for a long time to wear sunscreen :) I take Topamax right now and it's amazing because it has helped to ease up my anxiety and depression as well in conjunction with my diet. Topamax has side effects at first such as feeling drunk but that goes away after your body adjusts to the dosage (about 3 weeks) and then there can be tingling in the hands or feet but it's better than the migraines. The elavil just made my depression and anxiety worse but that is not the case will all people but if you feel yourself getting worse, tell your dr immediately so he can take you off it. I hope this is helpful, i've tried a lot of things for my migraines and it can be a long frustrating road but don't get discouraged. :)

my migraines sound like yours, my doctor put me on amytryptaline as a preventative measure but the tablets just made me feel like a zombie and extremely lethargic. pain killers dont touch my pain either which like you last days and make me feel very anxious and low. I have a bad migraine today and also get burning pain. I thought the gluten free diet binkular mentioned sounded interesting, am willing to try anything
