Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
I used to keep a migraine diary, with EVERYTHING I ate, drank, everything I did, every bit of "glare" I exposed myself to, the weather etc. This, after about a year, gave me a good idea what my triggers were. Also, triggers have a tendency to be more of a trigger when you have been exposed to MORE of them. Say, when I have my period (ALWAYS a trigger for breakthrough) and I eat chocolate, I will get a huge breakthrough migraine. Chocolate at other times of the month and I rarely get a full blown breakthrough. If I were to eat a dark chocolate bar, on the second to last day of my period, on a day with low barometer, and high glare, AND there was a LOT of noise, and flashing lights and a strong smell (say, I went to, (shudder) Chuckie Cheeze) I'd be in HELL. That is why sometimes a single trigger may seem to NOT cause a headache at some times, and at other times, in conjunction with other triggers will cause a terrible one.
