Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Migraine itself is a neurological dysfunction, so it could be that your nerves are responding badly. More specifically, it could be a form of allodynia, which is known to be linked to migraines - particularly those who suffer from migraine w/ aura. Thermal allodynia, specifically.

It could also be because migraine is a disruption in serotonin and dopamine (and many of the meds we take to combat them alter these neurotransmitters). Serotonin and dopamine both help regulate body temperature.
Migraine is also sometimes co-morbid with thyroid disorders. And the thyroid plays a big role in maintaining body temperature.
There is also the fact that outside of migraines, people who are in pain often develop certain reactions or problems with body temperature. Things like - their body feels extremely cold, their hands are freezing - because the pain response has put enough stress on the body to cause blood to be conserved to the brain and organs, as opposed to your limbs.
Possible advice? Sometimes just getting a hot water bottle for your feet can help. Warming that part of your body will help maintain heat in your extremities, and then you can just have a light blanket for the rest of you. Make sure you have sheets and blankets (and wearing pajamas) that will wick moisture away from your body, so that if you get sweaty you aren't having wet clinging material to your skin. That is a surefire way to feel overheated (and gross). Then when you peel the blankets off, you are still wet...and the wetness cools your body really quickly, but you're not only cold - but clammy. Cotton bedding, organic type fabrics are best.
