Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Hi, I'm new here but have been dealing with migraines for a few years.
Recently I have been having 3-5 migraines a week and finally went to the neurologist. Previously I was able to take vivactil for prevention and axert as a stopper med but now I am on 2 different SSRI (antidepressants) and cannot use those meds anymore. I was also on topomax for 2 months at one time but had to stop taking it because it was killing my short term memory.
Now my doctor has prescribed zonegran. It is another anti-seizure med like topomax but may have less side effects. Anyone ever used it and how did it work? thanks

---I had to stop taking it , because it slowed my mental functions a tad, also cause me to be sleepy during the day at times--and the job I had at the time, I needed to be sharp, alert, and on top of my game. It was a tough decision to stop taking it, as it was helping me a lot with migraines.

P.S.--I remember being told to drink lots of water while on this medication.
