Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

I have had a 4 day migraine. I went to the doctor on Thursday after a day and a half of having a bad migraine. I haven't ever had one last this long. I started having them when I was in 6th grade and then just as suddenly as they appeared they disappeared and I stopped having them all the time. In 6th grade to about 10th grade I was getting a migraine almost everyday if I didn't take the preventative meds and even with the preventative meds i was getting them weekly. Well then they disappeared so i was weaned off the preventative. I didn't get any migraines for a long time. I would get a headache but excedrine or advil would kick it. I had a very serious illness about a year and a half ago. After that I started getting headaches/ migraines all the time. Sometimes there were other symptoms sometimes just my head hurt. Anyways I tried the preventative topamax and it didn't help at all and the side effects were awful. Excedrine migraine was the only thing that worked and sometimes I would have to take like four and lay down and it would go away.

Well i have tried everything and its not working. At the doctors on thursday they gave me a prescription migraine medicine midrin and my head still hurts! I can only take 2 and then one every hour after that for a max of 5 in a 12 hr period. Any suggestions? It is better but not gone. It just wont go away! I am soooo frustrated.

I just fought one for a week last week.. I know exactly how you feel. sometimes nothing works... Have you been throwing up ?
Usually after a day and a half , sometimes sooner, if I am getting no relieef.. I have to call my Dr and get a rescue shot.. alot of people go to the Er for help, but wheree I live they just think you are seeking drugs, so it's not even an option anymore to go to ER for me. But the rescue shot ALWAYS gets rid of the migraine.. It knocks me out,, and I feel really draggy for a day or two after I get one.. but NO MIGRAINE!!! I sure hope you get to feeling better. i'm on my 5th day and finally i am getting some relief. the last rescue shot did nothing for me. my hormones are out of whack.

i am so sorry for you this happens to me alot i just resently found out that it is my atlas bone that is out of alignment, and the dr. told me most migranes are this cause,or either sizeres. which topamax should help. it does help those that i have but my atlas is also another migrane i get oh boy yes there are many kinds...write back if you need more god bless you you need a chiropractor with a little gun like thing to fix you.. gail

I finally got relief at the end of day 7. I went to a nuerologist and he prescribed several things, Imitrex, darvacet and two other samples that are tripans (similar to imitrex same category). I am still getting migraines every day. I had three yesterday but when I take the imitrex it goes away but comes back and one today. They put me on a preventative but told me it takes 3 weeks for them to be effective and also he wants to do an MRI and EEG. Are these standard tests that they do when you start having migraines again after years of having only minor ones and not needing prevention?
