Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
I understand where you are coming from. I have been reading the board for 6 months. I find it very helpful.
I am also new to migraines. I have learned to have a plan from my Neurologist: when your migraine starts, you will know what to take right away to try to stop it. I also try to go to a dark room (if I can), put a pillow over my head, leaving room to breathe of course :) that makes it quieter and even darker, shut the door to the room and then just wait for it to go away.
If after about an hour it is not going away, sometimes I will take 1 more of my pills (I try to only take what I need. usually 1 pill is enough).
I have a plan in place if my migraine worsens and I cannot keep fluids and pills down, I need to go to a local Urgent Care where they can administer IV fluids and IV meds to abort my migraine.
Talk to your doc and make a plan. It has taken me this long to even begin to understand how to manage them. Yes, I have had the headaches you speak of and worse. I have been hospitalized a few times to manage my migraines when I was first diagnosed. They were awful! Pain that I have never felt before!
It does get better!
There are many different ways to manage them. But as I have been told many times......It takes time
Wishing you painless days ahead.

I also do wake up with some really, really horrible migraines. With those ones, I know I won't got back to sleep unless I take something. And yes, I can only lay on one side. There is nothing I can do except get up, take medicine, and lay back down and PRAY for sleep to take me.
Now, I am pretty lucky in the fact that if this is happening when I am trying to fall asleep, I have medicine that would knock out a horse, so falling asleep isn't the problem. It's the walking up like that which is the problem.
Try to keep a glass of water (or whatever you drink) by your bed, and whatever your migraine meds are there too. I find that helps A LOT.
