Methamphetamine is a synthetic stimulant drug used for both medicinal and recreational purposes. Methamphetamine is highly psychologically addictive. Like most stimulants, large doses of methamphetamine can result in a strong feeling of euphoria at the expense of physical fatigue and a strong "come-down" as the drug's effect wears off.
I wanted to post a summary of treatments tested for meth addiction
1) An 8 week placebo controlled trial did look at Paxil and had high dropout rates but did find reductions in meth cravings
2) trials looking at neurontin (gabapentin) as solo treamtent for meth addiction have not shown promise
3) A placebo controlled trial with zoloft 50 mg showed no benefit
4) Buproprion (Wellbutrin) did reduce cravings from meth in one study
5) A NEW study looked at a 3 drug regimen for treatment of meth addiction and the results WERE promising: participants received 50 mg of atarax 1 hr before receiving Flumazenil infusions followed by Neurontin (gabapentin) 300 mg a day for 30 days. This regimen resulted in a substantial decline in meth use and decreased meth cravings (Mayo Clinic Proceedings October 2007)

This is great news, hopefully some recovery homes will use it.
Him being in jail is his safest place. They are all used to various drug withdrawals so he will be OK.
