Who do you listen to?

My gynecologist added progesterone cram in addition to me using vivelle dot.
I went to the progesterone.com website, and read how beneficial and overlooked it is.
On another menopause website, somebody commented that they hope it works for me, otherwise if you don't need it, it can cause other problems.
Would my dr have even prescribed it if he thinks I don't need it??

If they did tests then the doctor should have knowledge where your hormone levels are, without I think it is trial and error. I feel we have to try things before we know how it effects us, just use a small amount first to see whats happening. I feel I should get some progesteron creme too and just try it. Most doctors so totally annoy me that I don't want nothing to do with them, plus I have no health insurance, and they only prescripe pharmacutical drugs and most of them disregard any natural remedies; just look at you funny when you even mention such a thing, which totally annoys me. So maybe listen to your body and try some, if it does not make it better or worse stop. Nobody but us knows how we feel.

I too like the title of your discussion. Unfortunately, we have to be our own advocates. Health care is a business model just as every other industry. So we have to do our own research and do what we feel is best. Also, hormone replacement is very individual and can take a bit of trial and error. However, most doctors would say there's no need to take progesterone or a progestin if you don't have a uterus. But then there are those (mostly alternative doctors) who say that there are progesterone receptors elsewhere in the body (besides the endometrium) and that it should be taken when estrogen is taken, uterus or not.

A little progesterone cream is not going to cause you a lot of probs.If you notice anything bad, just stop it and within days your body will g back to your regular self...

Personally i try to listen to my body and use my own intuition.

i forgot.But i would try the bio-identical progesterone cream....

I would try the bio-identical hormones creams.

yu listen to the specialist in the field , your gyn...

all PCP when they go to school study a field , like babies , ortho , gnyco .. so your dr maybe better in Babies or gastro ... or you may luck out and get a PCP that has gyn in back ground ..or your dr just maybe be a family dr.....

I would trust your GYN, try it for 3 months and see the improvements. I've been on 200 mg. progesterone cream for several months. Seen no bad side effects. It helped with anxiety, depression, mood, sleep. It's worth at least giving it a good try. You can always stop it. Best Wishes, Judy

I like your topic? I say try it if it causes some side effects then stop. Its not easy going through this stuff and the truth of the matter is no one has exact answers for your body which is why there are trial and error for us to experience. When my mother was going through menopause and having hot flashes she would say, "this is too sweet to share" and fan herself. Now she says if they had something like this when she was going through it she would have been all over it and sharing and trying. Cause being moody is not good and the anxiety is just too much so I am trying and I encourage you to do the same.

Angel - I'm curious if your ovaries were removed when you had your hysterectomy and what issues you're having since your surgery.

I HAD my ovaries removed too that is called a total Hyster... best thing to do . If you get a partial hyster , at some point in time you will have to have surgery again to remove your ovaries...

ROZIA - I'm curious why you think a woman would HAVE to get her ovaries removed? The only time it's truly necessary is if she has CONFIRMED ovarian cancer. And in women who want to preserve their fertility, if there's cancer in only one ovary or it's confined to an ovarian cyst, they oftentimes remove only the cyst or only the ovary leaving the other ovary in place. Why should it be any different for a woman who's completed her family?

A woman without the BRCA gene has a lifetime risk of ovarian cancer of LESS THAN 2% yet healthy ovaries are removed (castration) over 50% of the time during hysterectomy. Ovaries are the equivalent of a man's testicles. They should be no more disposable than a man's testicles.

More importantly, the ovaries (and uterus) are essential to lifelong health. Removal of female sex organ(s) increases risk of many health problems including heart disease and osteoporosis. Even ACOG says that 70% of hysterectomies are unwarranted.

If internal aging is any indicator of the rapid external aging I've experienced since my unnecessary hysterectomy, I'm in deep trouble!
