Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

It's been a while since I have checked the postings on here but I did a discussion search and didn't find this topic, so I am posting for some advice.
I am perimenopausal and my periods are pretty much all over the place, hence my hormones are as well. I need help with the urge to eat all the time. It doesn't matter if I have just eaten or not. I have tried sucking on sugar-free candy and chewing sugar-free gum. I drink plenty of water, and have tried some sugar-free drink mixes to add to water. I've tried Phynelalanine, which is a supplement to help with appetite. I also use a progesterone cream.
I was doing pretty well not eating sugar and watching carbs, etc. and then the week before my period (the longest I've ever gone between periods - 52 days) I just went crazy and wanted to eat everything I could get my hands on. This urge is a compulsive nagging that doesn't let up.
There was a post about hysterectomies and gaining weight, but I haven't had one and I walk everyday to maintain my weight. This is about wanting to eat ALL THE TIME! It is a strange out of control kind of feeling.

I battle this also. I used to get this symptom every month right before my period -- severe PMS/PMDD. Now, I feel hungry all of the time! Combine my huge appetite with feeling sluggish and tired all the time and this is a recipe for weight gain definitely. I used to keep my weight down with no problem but unless something gets better with my hormones, it feels like I am doomed.

I'm Sorry I felt this way too! Did you see a DR. on this? Perhaps are you're lacking something in your body? The only thing that took away that need to eat.. Was in 2010 I Got Triple Negative Breast Cancer! The 3 Brutal different Chemos made me so nauseous. I had mouth sores and most foods all tasted terrible. Most liquids Burned. That stopped my eating urges. Even so I gained weight from the steroids and what Meds. I could afford. Its a terrible time! I'm sending my caring, healing well wishes!! Good Luck in all that you do and finding what helps & works for you!

OMG yes I have those days too. Nothing safisfies me so I just keep eating and eating. And on those days its mostly junk that I put in my mouth because I have absolutely no desire to prepare anything for me or any one else in the house. Sometimes I just get so frustrated with being the one who has to decide what everyone eats all the time! Maybe if I had someone to prepare good foor for me on those days I would make better choices. I need a wife!

watch your carb intake and get off anything that has fructose. Fructose will make you gain weight. There is fructose in a ton of things, so read those labels.
