Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

Well, I went back on estrogen after 18 days off.
The intense, burning vaginal irritation I had is all but gone after I .05 vivelle dot patch.
My mood is even better.
Do you think the replaced estrogen is the reason I feel better?
I will never go off of it again.
Friends are disappointed in me because they wanted me off of estrogen, and say the symptoms are normal and will get better.
But, I was so miserable.
Your opinion?

Glad the estrogen helps...figured it would since this all started after you stopped the estrogen. Friends are disappointed? It is YOUR choice as to whether or not to use HRT. Do these friends realize that surgical menopause has many more health risks and usually more severe (and/or longer-term) menopausal symptoms than natural menopause?

Your friends need to realize that menopause effects everyone differently. It is your body and you have to do what works for you. I some days wish I had that option, however; I do not. I had a stroke and people who have had that can not take HRT. I also can not take anything like estroven either. So I am just doing the best I can. Hang in there and do what works for you.

My mother-in-law has never had a hot flash...EVER. She's 85 and went through the change when she was in her late 40's and had a hysterectomy. I think it's wonderful that she's never had an symptoms at all, but....what I don't think is wonderful is the way she takes enjoyment from watching me suffer and sweat while she points out to anyone within earshot "uh oh, Karen's having a hot flash!" I guess my point in all of this (besides my MIL is a rude uncaring classless and ignorant witch-well, you get the picture) everyone reacts differently to menopause. What worked for your friends may not work for you but they should support your decision. The next time they start in on you about it just ask them. "would you rather have me happy and feeling well on HRT or miserable and sick without it?" If they choose the latter....let them go!

If you were miserable prior to taking estrogen, I surely would not stop taking the estrogen now . I am on Medroxyprogesterone Estrogen and I am doing so much better with it than without it. Everything you take has risks, even over the counter medicine. I think it is so important to have a great quality of live versus quantity of life. I think the replaced estrogen is the reason why you are feeling better. I know i will not stop taking mine. It has improved my quality of life one hundred fold.
