Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
Polarbaby, I am 54. 2 years ago my GP put me on a BC pill that stopped my out of control periods. When my periods stopped the shit hit the fan. I am fearful of my periods coming back as I am sure I don't have the ability to sustain this misery starting all over again. You might want to ask your Dr. about stopping them at 56. I suspect you will have to ride out the Post as many of us do but for me, I have hope that the hormones will level out and peace may be in the future. I have this hope because I see so many women in their 70's that appear to be enjoying their golden years. How can that be, right? Take Care! Deny
don't despair, it is very likely this is the last one.
I am 50, mine got heavy for the past year or so. Then I got hot flushes for several months, they got unbearable and constant for about 2 months. Now they have mostly gone, thank goodness! I have not had a period for about 4 months so I am hoping that is it.
Don't worry, it does stop. Just give yourself plenty of gentle sensible natural support. Get some exercise daily, always get plenty of sleep and rest, try relaxation, eat fresh natural foods. This way you maximise your chances of things happening as they should and as quickly as possible. My natural non-medical lifestyle has worked and I am much more comfortable and happy now.
When I was having the heavy, painful periods, my doc prescribed Flurbiprofen, which worked very well for me. It is an ibuprofen type of medicine, but it works much better. It also supposedly clamps down your blood vessels to decrease bleeding.
Good luck to you.
I was really sick in 2007 with major depression. I have had about 4 depressions in my life. I am on meds now that have made me depression free for years. Because I had recurrences of depressions I will have to take these meds for life. I think that if you feel well enough you could try weaning yourself off your meds with the help of your doctor. If that does not work well than stay on them. My question to you is if you need them for life what will change for you? Does it really matter if you need to take them for life it they help you be happy.
